SMC Weybridge want £25 a day for a courtesy car. Is this the norm? Feel this is unfair as it's for warranty work, not like I want the car to be there!
Punters need to be careful and closely read the details of the insurance. Our local dealer will let me have a free courtesy car (extremely long term customer) but the insurance excess is £2500!you sure its not for insurance
Not necessarily, but a good one, and one that would want my custom twice would. Are the dealership obliged to supply free courtesy cars?
A dealership isn't even obliged to provide a courtesy car.Are the dealership obliged to supply free courtesy cars? I’ve heard various answers to that question.
I’ve had a few after car accidents which they are repairing on my private vehicles, but my personal insurance covered the costs, not sure about warranty work though as I never needed to claim on warranties.
When I had company cars they were always supplied free, mainly because the company had deals with Ford, Vauxhall etc as the fleet was over 4.5k vehicles of various descriptions worldwide, but that was way back in the day.
Yep, dealership I represent, buy a car from them, courtesy cars are free, if you purchase elsewhere then there is a cost, I should imagine the OP didn't purchase his car from SMC Weybridge. In my country it is totally normal nowadays (wasn't in the past) to pay for a replacement car while work is done on yours, though a bicycle is always available and of course free. Sure it's a cost saving measure but also a "pay what you use", like modern flying. Let's be honest here, otherwise the costs for these cars would be spread out over all customers, also the ones not using one.
It is IMHO also an encouragement to shop locally. With that I am not saying you should, it's a free country, but that it is debatable on whose tab that dealer further away should be.
Sideline story: my dealership has several locations, one 5 minutes driving/biking away, but the ZE certified one 40kms. I used to always go to the ZE one, but two years ago they themselves offered to have all the non ZE maintenance work carried out by the shop close to me, and if it turned out there was ZE work to do, they would transport it. Now in my eyes that is customer service. Instead of driving 160 km and paying for a courtesy car, I drive 10 min, and bike 10 minutes. Of course I realize this is a fairly unique situation.
