Driving to Disney & Paris

Hi,

We have booked our 2021 Kia E-Niro 3

onto a ferry from Dover to Calais to take our family of 4 to Disneyland and then onto Paris, just after the Easter weekend. I have read all the rules re driving in France and have ordered all the necessary items, including my Green Air Cert Sticker.

We live about an hour and a half from Dover and I plan to top up, nearby before we get to the Port, so we may make it all the way to our AirBnB with miles left, but feel like I would want to stop again to top up/get to a complete charge. I have ordered my Chargemap Card and downloaded the App.

I would like to know if it is recommended to have any other Apps/Charge cards etc and if so which ones?

Can I easily use Tesla chargers, are they compatible, do I need a Tesla App, am I likely to just be able to use a debit or credit card at places?

I'm used to 90+% charging at home; we have been to The Lakes/Scotland and Manchester which I have found fairly easily.

After 2 days near Disney we are then doing a further 2 nights at another AirBnB close to Paris before driving to Parc Astrix on our last day before driving back to Calais.

Has anyone got any particular charging stations that they recommend.

I've exhausted all other methods of transport as well as taking out 14 yr old car but taking our 3yr EV is what I definitely want to do, I don't mind a couple of delays/disruptions, but hope to make it as straightforward as possible.

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated,

Many thanks

Hmmm we took our family of 4 to Euro Disney and Paris last year. We caught the train. Within Paris the RER is great there’s a stop at Euro Disney and also at parc Astérix.
My French friend did warn me to watch out for pickpockets on the line that goes to euro Disney, fortunately we didn’t have any trouble.
If you intend on visiting both parcs at Disney 2 days might be tight.
Get the euro Disney app it can help you avoid long queues.
Try not to be last minute getting to the nighttime spectacular or you’ll get a restricted view.
If your kids are old enough plan a future trip to puy du fou, the shows with live translation are great, the smaller shows with no live translation are still good but the French was a bit hard for me. I did drive there but we took the Octavia so can’t help with charging, going to the west of France always presents the opportunity to divert through Le Mans, always a pleasure to drive down the Mulsanne straight!

I use my Mercedes me charge card and it is all I have ever needed here. The peage are well served by rapids Ionity is reliable and Total Energies are also good. Your chargemap card should be good with both. On some services the chargers are on one side not the other but that is slowly changing.
My advice would be to study the chargemap and A better route planner maps so you know the locations of chargers on your routes and also you can run various routes via both and see what they suggest with different options of charge levels etc.
In general France is good for access to chargers in my experience here in the northwest and queuing outside of peak holiday days is pretty rare if almost unheard of (I have never seen it!)
Many Tesla SuC are slightly off the main routes so involve a short detour you will need the app so make sure your plan allows data roaming and allow for that cost plus 4g coverage can be patchy outside of the big centres. Check which Tesla SUC are open to all their map shows it I believe.
It is likely there are chargers both at Disney and at Parc Asterix and also in the location of the Airbnb even if in a small village though these will be AC up to 11kw and some are 22kw.
The french government is making very serious efforts to change our national fleet fom ICE to BEV asap and the number of chargers has grown to over 110,000 nationally at the end of Jan so you should not have too much trouble.
As suggested the liber t badge bip and go available over the internet via Sanef is worth the effort of obtaining you just sail through the peage with no need to grab a ticket etc or risk kerbing the wheels in the process!

edited to add I reckon chargemap card alone would be ok you can check via their site for chargers you are interested in and in our region the village chargers use contactless as well as rfid. Not sure re Ionity or total energies but chargemap will be fine on them

We did it in 2019 in the Tesla. Far less public charging then, and with the explosion of rapid charging in France in the last 2 years I’m sure you’ll have plenty of options on the main drags.

Take some snaps of the solar canopies over the car parks at DLP - be interested to see how far they stretch now. Apparently the largest in Europe.

There's a 16 bay Open To All Cars Tesla joint about 10-15mins south from the Eurodisney big Ring Road
You do need to sign up / enter a payment card on their app beforehand, but I used one in the UK for my Kona and it was light years better than phaffing about with other brands / rfid cards.

Also recommend the plugshare app to look see what charge points are around, and of course whether people have used them okay in the last days/weeks.

Bit of homework with the tools mentioned above, maybe 2 cups of tea worth, and you'll be fine.

Check out my YouTube channel (link below) - I’ve done a few trips across the channel.
I carry the charging card from my manufacturer - in my case the base level one from Audi - but the pricing is often better with Octopus Electroverse so that’s my main card.
I also, for my last trip, did a one month subscription to Ionity Passport, which brought Ionity stations down to €0.39 kWh and gives a good discount at the ones this side of the tunnel. Theres Maidstone and channel gateway Ionity plus chargers at the tunnel terminals.
I have the Tesla app and have used Superchargers in France and at home. It’s not useful on my route to the mountains, but has been on other trips.
Tolls I used to just pay as I went but recently got a Bip&Go toll tag. Better value than the Emovis one. If you use a bank card pick one without foreign transaction fees.
France is easy, they have large charging hubs at many service areas on the autoroutes.

The girls don't know yet, but have been asking for years. Hubby and I are also huge Disneyfiles so went before we had them during a trip to Paris. We're meeting some family at the Park, who are flying from Glasgow. I'm so excited about taking the girls to Paris too. Thanks for the info 😊

We did this very trip last month, travelling from.Doncaster albeit in a Superb IV.

Traded in a 62kw Leaf 2 weeks before we traveled due to fears of charging, but they would have been unfounded.

The route from Calais to Paris is awash with chargers so fear not.

We stopped in an Airbnb 5 minutes away from Val de Europe. Perfect location and a 20 minute walk to the parks.

As an aside, I'm now a PHEV convert, and the Superb is, well, Superb!

ignore me, see you’ve already got the Crit’Air. I’m planning on subscribing to Tesla for the month in the summer for my trip from West Yorkshire down to Croatia as Tesla superchargers can get me most of the way till Slovenia and much cheaper than any other network.

I have just used wecharge (Elli) and electroverse rfid cards in France, same as I can use in the UK. Its nice to have both just in case one doesn't work. Chargemap isn't necessary. There are banks of Ultra rapids at most of the bigger Aires now, ample options on the route to Paris and utilisation seems lower than in the UK. The attached screenahot shows sites with at least six CCS 100kw+ rapids that should work with an electroverse card. Just follow your route down the A26/A1 or A16. If you take the A16, the Baies de Somme services are very nice in good weather. You'll be fine, there should be no disruption at all.

Sundays have advantages that Lorrie’s are not on the road until evening (they are banned from Sat am) but in peak times with departure and return the roads are much busier. Recommend anyone coming to France checks the bison futé site for traffic predictions it is in English as well

The positioning of the Tesla supercharger network is an inconvenience I was well aware of and works against them for me but that is a purely personal thing but the comments in the video about the lack of facilities is informative for others used the the 7/7 operation of the U.K. (A slight aside if somewhere here says it is open every day still read the small print as undoubtedly there will be an except for with one or two days when the place is closed🤣)

I would definitely not bother with superchargers for the OP's trip. Not worth the hassle at all. Even the price saving is pretty small in France. There are big sites from other providers in plenty of places that are easier to use.
Oh and the motorways are always quiet in my experience until you get past Charles de Gaulle. Driving along a French autoroute like the A26 or A1 is, in my experience, comparative bliss. I could go 3 times as far without needing a rest as I can in the UK. (Car can't though as I go too fast!)

Hope you don't mind me reviving the thread but going to be visiting Disneyland Paris in a few weeks. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on chargers in the main car park other than there being 4 but that looks to be before the solar canopies where built. Wondered if anyone who had visited over the summer had spotted any new ones?
