E-Golf keyless entry unreliable

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a 2019 E-Golf which has keyless entry fitted and I'm finding it to be quite inconsistent in the way that it operates. This is the first car I have owned with keyless so I wanted to make sure my problems are not due to user error.

I have two key fobs and have the same behaviour with both. New duracell batteries have been fitted into both of them to eliminate that as a cause.

The symptoms are as follows:

When the car is locked and I have the fob in my hand or pocket, touching the door handle sometimes opens the car, and sometimes does nothing. I have tried moving the fob into different positions and altering my hand position on the sensor/handle but doesn't make much difference. If I wait for a random time period (e.g. 30 seconds) then it magically starts working. It's the same on both the driver and passenger door. I also experience the same when leaving the car and trying to lock it.

I never have any problems with the boot opening though, so suggests that the signal between the fob and the car is ok.

I assumed that it would work reliably and consistently so wondering what experience other E-Golf owners have with the keyless. Maybe I'm not fully understanding how it's supposed to work.

The car is still under warranty so can always go back to the dealer. Just wanted to eliminate me as the cause first

Thanks for any help you can provide

I was going to suggest the same as @Glyndonian . The small indent on the outside of the handle is for locking, to open you have to put your hand in behind the handle as if you are about to open the door. If I am not intending to open the drivers door for instance I simply slip my hand behind and momentarily clasp my hand as if I am about to pull the door handle. This 95% of the time opens the locks. I have however had the odd occasion when its not unlocked.
