Electric traction system fault

Hi all, I’ve had the dreaded ‘Electric Traction System Fault’ twice within 30 days which seems to be an increasingly more common fault across the Vauxhall/Peugeot EV platform. First time September 19th, second time October 18th 2022. Both times it was without warning and left me stranded in a live lane. My Corsa-e is my driving school car and therefore it’s considerably impacting my business. I’m interested in compiling a case with everyone that has suffered this dangerous fault. I’m surprised it’s not subject to a Product Safety Recall Notice given the fact the car can just stop dead without warning or for the driver to get to a safe location.

Dealer has been good but Vauxhall Customer Services have not been helpful at all. My Corsa-e is under warranty. It is my driving school car and so this fault, rendering my car undriveable and unsafe is negatively impacting my business. I’m seeking compensation from Vauxhall.

The fault is 5 weeks in as of today, 3 more weeks and I can involve the Motor Ombudsmen. I will also report this dangerous fault to the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency so that a proper investigation can begin which in turn will hopefully force a Product Safety Recall Notice. At present the DVSA reports no safety recall notices upon this platform.

I have discovered that Vauxhall released a ‘BSI software upgrade’ recall notice on October 6th 2022. NOT a safety recall so many like myself, my local dealer, work colleagues with the same vehicle platform etc are unaware of this software recall. In other words, Vauxhall/Peugeot seem to be trying to keep it quiet, presumedly because a Safety Recall is high profile and has financial and brand confidence issues. I’m interested in compiling a list of everyone affected by this fault in order to strengthen our case.

I'm aware that a few people have had the fault with the Mokka and a few with the Corsa.
My feeling is you would get a greater response if you either had this thread moved to the stellantis forum or perhaps created separate posts in each of the car relevant sub forums and linked back to this one as a stand-alone survey.

Statistically you'll need a no in the answers too so you can get a % of respondents.

Iv had this with my Citroen EC4 which uses the same platform, My Citroen dealer has had the car for 3 weeks and they cant seem to fix it. They spoke to me yesterday and they don't know how to fix it and have had to send all details to a specialist in France. The car is brand new from October so am thinking about looking at the other options i have has the fault occurred when the car was 8 week old.

I have had the problem twice when the car, e2008 cut out completely in traffic. On the first occasion I took it back to the dealer who identified a temperature switch and said the car was safe to drive while they waited for a new part. When it happened again I had th car returned to the dealers until they could assure me it was sorted out and safe to drive.
I had an e208 previously with no problems.

Hi Stephen,

We have had this issue with our three month old Peugeot e208. It first happened when we'd had it just three weeks, but it happened in a car park and did reset after ten minutes and we didn't follow it up as we thought it was a minor glitch. However, a couple of months later it happened again but in a live lane of traffic with no warning which was a dangerous and frightening experience. We did get it restarted twice but it only went a further hundred yards before dying again. It was towed home by RAC and is currently residing on our drive as our main dealer which it came from, cannot even look at it for three weeks as they only have 2 EV trained fitters. I'm not optimistic about what the outcome will be even when they do look at it as they seem to be in complete denial that this is clearly a relatively common problem (the RAC man said he had seen it many times before). A quick google seems to confirm that this is huge concern for drivers of the e208, e2008 and eCorsa which I think are pretty much the same car as the Peugeot.

I hope the issue with your car has been satisfactorily resolved and and am hoping that ours is sorted soon. It leaves a very sour taste that this has happened to a brand new and far from inexpensive car. :-(

My e208 was bought in September 2021. It failed within 6 weeks and a the auxiliary battery was changed. 1400 miles later the auxiliary battery and the traction battery had to be changed. In November the car started to shut down again (radio, sensors, cameras). It has been at the garage now for 16 weeks, having been towed in by RAC, and has had 3 parts changed and it still doesn’t work. Another part is on order which may arrive in the next 10 days or so but the garage have no confidence this part will resolve whatever the issue is. My car has spent more than 1/4 of its life in the garage not working. I’m beginning to think that it will never be repaired meanwhile I am paying for a GT premium and am driving a GT which obviously has lower specifications. At what point will Peugeot write the car off as irreparable?

This sounds so similar to our experience. The car has currently been off the road for two months, we have had the courtesy car longer than we have actually had our own vehicle and I don't think they are any further forward in resolving the problem. I feel that it is negligent and dangerous to put our vehicle back on the road when it is highly likely to cut out at any moment with very little warning. We are currently trying to reject the vehicle and obtain a replacement but I am not particularly confident that this will happen. Very concerning that this is not an uncommon issue :-(.
