Hi All.

currently an owner of a 22reg Eniro 2 LR, (64kwh - basic spec). On a 3 year lease and probably looking at EV6 for next car if money allows.

came across this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmVAqOJBSLU which I thought was a pretty good overview of the car. I was pretty surprised by a few things, mostly I think bugs related to firmware / software.

Just wondering if any EV6 owners can comment on whether they are a real issue or not?

main ones I noticed:

- No illuminated charge port or handles (which the eniro has).
- boot opening on key proximity? and not re-locking? My niro opens door mirrors when I walk past but then closes them again, at no point does it unlock unless I press the door handle button.
- need to use fob to unlock the car (eniro can be unlocked using button on handle)
- no wireless apple car play ?? (which my eniro has this and is really a good feature for us).

I do absolutely love the look and spec of the EV6, just dont want to regret it if I go for the extra expense!

imo the range seems about the same between the two cars (approx 250-280 on a good day) but with much better charging on EV6.

Feedback from previous Eniro and EV6 owners would be great.

Thanks

Currently have an E-Niro 4, personally the Main ones you listed are no big deal as far as I'm concerned, with perhaps the boot locking issue. Pressing a key fob to unlock has never seemed a burden to me. The boot on the EV6 is larger and VTL may be a useful feature, though I understand the new Niro will have this. The faster charging is a plus but only relevant if you consistently do long journeys needing charging en-route.

The boot issue that some thick reviewers pointed out is actuallly controlled by the settings. i.e. you can have the boot on auto opening on approach or set as only opening when the boot button is pressed on the key.

The wireless car play lack does not really bother me as I use amazon, spotify and apple etc so all I do is to select the phone in 'media' then I just say foe example, "Alexa play "......." or ask spoitify via VC to play the tune etc. Still wireless but just for music as anything else just seems a bit nerdy.

Coming from an I pace I personally wanted a similar low shape and style which is why I chose the EV6. I did test drive the Ioniq 5 but i found that to be too 'rolly' and too soft around bends, too much body roll. The looks also put me off as the bumpers looked like cheap. The Ioniq also looks to me like an old golf on steroids which is why I was shocked when it beat the EV6 as world car of the year.

A car journo friend told me in a humorous observation that the EV6 won European car of the year but not world car of the year purely because yanks have no taste which after many trips to the US, I have to agree with :)

If you have set you EV6 to unlock when the key is near, but carry on walking past the car it very quickly re-locks so no problem there, if you open the tailgate with the car locked it is relocked when it closes so no problem there either. Ev6 can be unlocked by touching the slight indent in the front door handles when you have the key (of course GTLS can unlock when the key is close)
There is no wireless CarPlay but adaptors are available if its really important to you and lighting is poor for charging at night although there is a light in the end of the rear spoiler that is directed downwards and can help, not had a major problem charging at night in a poorly light carpark.

Apple car play: I bought a carlinkit3 off Amazon for £80…gives you wireless and works perfectly.

Locking/unlocking: either key fob or press the side of the front door handles.

Boot: get a Air or GT Line..manual boot is so much easier IMO.

Had mine 3 weeks and 1300 miles. I am not bothered by any of the items you mention as the overall driving experience and practicality of the car have really won me over. Its a bit annoying there is no wireless android auto/apple car play when I had this on my 2018 car it replaces but, I will just get a wireless dongle. There are plenty of other cool items to help you forget and it looks and drives great. Only seen two others in three weeks.

I saw one of these in white, parked up on the way to Portland. I have to say it looked stunning in real life. Even my wife who is not really interested in cars commented "what is that, it's fantastic looking", IMHO much better styling than the orange Mustang that's parked down the road from me.

I have an invite to the dealer in Yeovil in June for their EV6 day, hmmm🤔 a possible Macan replacement? Only concern would be that we drive down to Andalucia each year and the charging network in Spain is far from ideal.

Hi Guys,

I have been reading about e-Niro and EV6 and wanted to book one - and nearly thought of booking EV6 GT Line - (not GT Line S). Please can anyone help me to choose between EV6 GT Line (S) vs e-Niro 4. There is a price difference because of specs, though I am happy to spend. EV6 is something I like it being more futuristic - but if I am getting almost all of the specs in Niro 4 then I wonder if it is justified or not. TIA

I agree

we came from a Hyundai Kona Premium SE. So fully loaded and £38k on the road

we were lucky to get our EV6 Air for £39k.

The Kona is a totally brilliant EV the same as the Niro but it’s now let down by drip feed slow charging compared to every modern EV.

the 800v system on the EV6 is just a game changer for high mile drivers. I would go back to a Kona/Niro in a blink if they upgraded the charging to match the EV6. But at the current 77kw max it’s just way to slow to keep up with almost everything else being released.

I needed to replace my leased Outlander PHEV in May this year. In January I did a market survey of EVs and narrowed down to three options: Skoda Enyaq 80, Kia EV6 Air or one year old Kia eNiro 4. My personal ranking (head) was: Niro, Enyaq, EV6. Conversely my ranking (heart) was: EV6, Enyaq, eNiro.
In early Feb I took SWMBO who has zero interest in cars to look at all three in respective showrooms, fully expecting to settle on a used eNiro. She took one look at the White EV6 in the showroom and said that’s what we should have. She didn’t even want to look round the e Niro or to visit the Skoda dealership. I have to admit I didn’t take a lot of convincing. We have now owned the EV6 for a month and are delighted with “our” choice. 😊👍

We've been thinking about this. My wife can get either a Niro EV 4 (MY22) or an EV6 Air (MY21) as a company car. Both have a 12 month queue. We currently lease an e-Niro 4 (MY20) that has to be returned in just over a year. If were able to get an EV6 GT-Line I think it would be an easy decision but the Air is lacking quite a few features compared to the Niro 4 MY22 and even the 4 MY20 we have now:
  • Niro EV 4 MY22 & e-Niro 4 MY20:
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Electrically adjustable front seats
  • Front parking sensors
  • Premium sound system
  • Heat pump
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 2.0)
  • Niro EV 4 MY22:
  • Sunroof
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Blind spot collision assist
  • Rear privacy glass
  • Solar windscreen
  • Dual LED headlights
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA 1.0)
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2.0)
Obviously there are pros to the EV6 too, mainly a quieter drive, 20% longer range, and much faster charging. I'm guessing the EV6 is a bit bigger but we're pretty happy with the size of the Niro. The EV6 would cost £50/mo more. What would you choose and why?

  • Niro EV 4 MY22 & e-Niro 4 MY20:
  • Wireless phone charging
  • (30min job to fit your own under the space for the built in one (or you can buy the official pad but its expensive)

  • Electrically adjustable front seats
  • Yes, we change drivers a lot and we do miss them

  • Front parking sensors
  • Vicky thought it would be a problem but its not been its very easy to park

  • Premium sound system
  • The base system is as good as the premium system we had in our Kona PSE

  • Heat pump
  • Did plenty of tests on this in Winter, its a non issue, makes about 8 miles range difference on a 3 hour drive

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 2.0)
  • Th basic system is the same as the Kona / Niro one, Do miss rear side warning tho.

  • Niro EV 4 MY22:
  • Sunroof (Never liked them myself)- would prefer a full glass roof tho
  • Ventilated front seats (Yes they are wonderful on hot sticky days)
  • Heated rear seats (Dont miss them, I dont sit in the back
  • Blind spot collision assist (Is something that is valuable)
  • Rear privacy glass (Get it done on secondary market for £100)
  • Solar windscreen (In the UK? useful a week a year)
  • Dual LED headlights (EV6 base has dual LED)
  • Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA 1.0) (Will end up with road rash on the wheels very quickly)
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2.0) (havent they removed this now same as new EV6s, down to 1.5)

Just my thoughts anyway

am a big fan of the Niro/Kona the only thing that would stop me having another is the charging speed, 77kw max does not cut it now. The EV6 is so much faster even on a 50Kw rapid, Niro/Kona will start at 41kw and slowly get upto 47kw by 60% as the pack voltage increases, then at 75% it slows right down, the EV6 pulss full 50Kw from 0% to 90%. On a 150kw+ its just worlds of difference, if you are going to charge on trips a lot then the EV6 is the no brainer, if you almost always charge at home then it makes little difference

As others have said, the killer feature of the EV6 is fast charging. Until you have it and use it, you don’t know what you’re missing.
My old I-Pace could do 60kW on a good day. So charging stops were leisurely.
The EV6 will max out the 150kW MFG chargers and on IONITY and Gridserve 300kW chargers it’s often in the 150-200kW range. I barely have time for a loo stop and coffee these days. A couple of times I’ve picked up a cold drink as it’s quicker!

If you need it then it is a decision maker, but if you don't then there is a lot less to like about the EV6.

Coming from a Tesla 100S, I am used to 150kW charging and a big battery, but the number of times I needed either of those in the last 4 years makes them unimportant to me now.

If you are racking up 20k+ miles a year and living on the motorways then it is very different, and the EV6 would go back to the top of the list (if you can live with the boot space).

Now what you really need for a swift, voluminous vehicle is this:
On the other hand, range might be an issue 🤣🤣

You tend to get used to the reflection of the box around the HUD and have had other cars that have had stuff on the dashboard that reflects in the windscreen that is far more annoying.

Just make sure you turn the brightness down a bit, otherwise it is too bright at night, that is definitely distracting!!

Only driven a GT-Line with 19" wheels a couple of times, so can't really compare the ride quality, but as we all know it is a very subjective thing. All I can say is that I find that the 20" wheels seem to handle bumps very well and unless you live in an area with pothole 'craters' (don't we all!) or owned a Rolls Royce (insert other luxury car here) with Air or some other magic suspension I think you will be pleased.

I do love driving my EV6 and find it a bit like a time machine, as I can drive for an hour and it only feels like driving for 20 minutes.

The pop out handles are nice, but if you are picking someone up you need to remember to press unlock twice to get them to come out and if you do the 'hands free' boot thing you still have to then unlock the car either by key or pressing the recess to unlock it.

They can also be a pain if you are walking past or washing the car
