Fiat 500e intelligent speed assist

Do any other 500e drivers have issues with the intelligent speed assist system?, My La Prima seems to identify signs correctly, but after a period of not seeing a sign, it checks the sat nav, and it appears to convert the sat nav speed from km to miles..... So a 30 sat nav signal displays as 20 mph.... 60 as 40mph etc. Lovely car, but this software bug is very annoying, and Fiat does not seem to have any answers!!!

I’m yet to see one that works on any car. Speed limiters are great, but I would always adjust it manually.

Just found this post as I'm experiencing the same thing. Intermittently the speed sign on the dash displays as 18 in a 30mph zone, 24 in a 40mph zone, etc. So you're correct that for some reason it occasionally thinks the speed limit is in kmh for some reason and then converts that to mph to display on the dash. I don't know if that's because it's falling back to the sat nav, but it seems that once it starts doing it, it continues to display the speed limit incorrectly even when passing speed signs that are clearly visible. Very annoying as it's flashing away because according to it you're speeding!

I have exactly the same nonsense with 18 and 24, and it's obviously connected to an inappropriate miles to kilometer conversion, but not, I think, to sign recognition. The reason I think that is that a road local to me was reduced from 40 to 30 a couple of years ago, but the Satnav insists it's still 40, and when I enter it, it displays initially as 24 and then adopts 40. With sign recognition it would be showing 18 or 30.

My theory is that it has the location memorised as 40, but is converting to 24 because of a coding error. Then, when it acquires a fresh Satnav location it adopts 40 because it is no longer using the "memorised" subroutine. Now, do you think I could get that across to my dealer so that he could pass it to FIAT? No, I didn't think so either :(

Btw, the Satnav insists the road past the airport is 60, despite the fact it has never been 60 - there is a blanket speed limit of 40 everywhere on the island that was in existence before Satnav existed. My KIA SoulEV does the same thing, so that must be database errors.

StephenR - your Satnav error after the rain makes me think of water ingress into the antenna or its cabling.

I have the same 18/24 problem with my Fiat 500 ev. When I asked for it to be fixed whilst in for 1st service with Wilson’s of Epsom the man (could think of better word!) dismissed the problem as non- existent : of course I am a mere elderly female driver which sums up his attitude ! They now want my car in for 5 days to monitor and liaise with their Romanian colleagues!!!! Am I dreaming ??

The problem is in the navigation system software, and it may be that the software engineers are in Romania. They probably want the dealer's technician to help them isolate the problem area and maybe test some fixes. I'm assuming the problem does not arise in Romania, because they use km and presumably don't see the problem, so they need to have it tested in the environment where miles are used.

I think this is a positive step, because it suggests that someone is taking the issue on board, and is prepared to put some effort into a cure.

If it were me, I would agree, provided they give you a loan vehicle. It's a nuisance, but you would be "taking one for the UK team", and we will all be duly grateful ;)

I left my car into Wilsons of Epsom for 5 days so they could fix the 18/24/31 problem as they had to liaise with their Romasian counterparts to fix it. Got it back yesterday when it seemed OK for the drive home but it is back to incorrect speed limiter information again today - so they did nothing to fix it apart from driving it 12 miles and probably finding it was OK - because the problem is intermittent!

Speed limits of 30/40/50 show on my screen as 18/24//31 but not all the time - sometimes it is oK!!
Satnav not accurate either. They obviously dont know how to fix it.!

Resurrecting this thread, as I think I've discovered a clue to the cause of the 18/24 problem. If the car is driven with the central screen off, the problem is seen, but immediately the screen is switched on, the correct speed limit is displayed. My guess is that some process in the SATNAV is inoperative with dark screen, or something on those lines.

Think it's related to loss of data signal re location too. The few times it happened after the software upgrade were during bad signal areas and secondly between the handover by the phone and u connect on android auto in my case I think you can simulate the error by turning the display unit on and off or also if you powered the car on and off very quickly.. However I've only had it happen once in last 4 months now otherwise the speed signage is working perfectly for me. Just a little slow at auto updating as you've generally passed the sign by the time it notifies you of the new speed rather than just before which would be preferable. Still works well overall though.
