Hi @Wadgti
It looks like you have the early 2015 - 4 mode GTE model like I had.
Some of the later 2015 / 16 models lost the “Battery Hold” function.
This function was not removed as part of an update, VW decided to drop this function and reduce to only 3 modes on the later cars.
It returned in full on the 7.5 model, stupid idea to remove it in the first place if you ask me !.

That’s weird. So they removed it all together then put it back on? wheres the logic in that? Ha

Its the other chap who is having issues with mode selection missing.

Also I know 2 people with 7.5's (18 plates), they do not have 4 modes still only 3

There you go theres your modes.

On mines which I think is MIB1? has the mode selection button on the screen.

2 guys I work with have 18 plate 7.5's with the mib2/2.5? Newest one, they have selection button mode under car and shows only ev, hybrid or recharge. They have digital clocks too.

That solves it then. Its strange as my mate has an 15 plate (like yours i guess) and has the same options as you. I just thought it strange that I didn't have the same interface options.
Thanks for the help
The very early 2015 versions of the Mk7 did have the extra "Battery Hold" function.
But some some time later in 2015 ( about November I think ) the 2016 model spec cars started arriving.
At this point the "Battery Hold" function disappeared from the menu.
When I purchased my car, it was a 3 month old X "Demo" model that the head sales person had used for a only a few weeks.
The early models did not have the ability to talk to the "App" ( E.remote ) or connection to Car Play etc.
They could not be retro refitted either.
I knew this when I bought it.
When the car went in for it's first service, it needed 13 updates to the control modules !.
The biggest number of updates every performed in a single time by the main dealer.
It retained all five of it's drive options for the whole four years of ownership, even after the HV battery was removed and checked under the recall.
Brilliant car, it was the best Golf of the three previous Golfs I had owned from new.

Here is an early post on the subject.
My car did have the early MIB1 "Discovery Pro" head unit installed from the factory.

Here is an article written on 23rd April 2015 ( Early version ).
Under the section, The Drive - Part 2 half way down the page.
And he writes :-
"In reality, the GTE is less hybrid, more a five-in-one. Prodding the “E-button” selects one of five operating modes: E-mode, GTE, Battery Hold, Battery charge and Hybrid Auto. A tap of the GTE button – the fun button that puts both engines into play – and off we went.
Here is another review conducted on 2nd December 2019 ( 7.5 Face Lift ).
And he writes :-
"I sometimes use Battery Hold if I know I'm coming up to a town, to ensure I can do some electric-only running when I get there".
I remember considering upgrading my MK7 to the Mk7.5 model and confirming it did include the "Battery Hold" function.
Maybe this was only available on the "Advance" model with the "Discovery Pro" head unit ?.

GTE is similar to Hybrid, it just makes the car sportier. I would not consider it a mode really. You can tell that GTE is not a different mode because if you enter E-mode from GTE, the dashboard briefly shows Hybrid before switching to E-mode.

The GTE mode keeps the battery around 10 miles SOC so you have a buffer for acceleration, it will burn extra fuel if the battery is low, and will allow you to use the battery down to about 10 miles in normal driving (so it's like a longer-distance hybrid auto mode.) However it will not shut the engine down when coasting if you are going above about 45 mph, which means the fuel economy can be poorer when driving on hilly roads, etc.

Dear Speak EV's

Can somebody explain how it works because I charge the GTE to its 28 mile range within a few days it goes down to 18 miles - even though I immediately engage the battery hold when I start the car ?

Infotainment system simply states the following - BATTERY HOLD: Maintain state of charge - The battery's current state of charge is maintained in order to use the electricity at a later point ?

But this is not happening ? What could be the reason ...
I put my golf gte on battery hold every time i charged it up but it still uses it, i don't know why, nothing is left on not even auto headlights or air con.
