How to lock charge cable???

Hoping for some easy assistance from I5 owners whose cars have auto pop out handles.

On my car the charge cable locking mechanism doesn't seem to work in the way that it's meant to and if anyone with a similar spec car could check theirs for me it would be appreciated.

The screen shows that the cable locking can be set to either of two options but on my car no matter which is selected the cable is not locked to the port unless the vehicle is actually charging. When charging is completed (or terminated e.g. by selecting STOP on the public charge point's screen) the cable unlocks correctly but I want the cable to remain locked in the charge port after charging is 100% until the doors are unlocked which is my understanding of the way the locking should work as per the first option "Always Lock".

If I insert the granny cable or the charge cable that comes with the car into car's port (without trying to charge) & then lock the car it should cause the cable lock to activate but it doesn't do this.

I've posted this on the I5 Facebook page and a couple of owners have tried this and found that it works OK as expected on their cars but none of those owners have the same spec locking system as mine.

My car has auto pop out handles so when approaching the car, the car detects the fob, extends the mirrors, illuminates the interior light and the door handles pop out. If I then open charge port, insert the charge cable, lock the car using the fob button and put the keys in the house (well away from interaction with locking system) and return to the car, the cable is NOT locked. The same applies at a public charge point: insert CCS, lock car, move keys out of range, DONT present RFID card for charging = cable is NOT locked.

As said, Facebook respondents all had NON-pop out handles and report that their car was fine (e.g. when they select "Always Lock" the charge cable is always locked to the charge port when doors are locked irrespective of the charging status).

Note: the car is detecting the insertion of the charge cable ok because in all case the little green icon appears in lower right of screen to confirm this (irrespective of the door lock status).

Please, if someone has auto pop out handles they could try this for me it would be very helpful - would only take you seconds to try(y)

what do you mean by "shortly after connection"? it seems you are inserting the charge cable into the port then commencing the charge [which always locks the cable] then after that you are locking the car. can you confirm the cable is locked to the car when the doors are locked but before you commence the charge

It is worthwhile buying a padlock with a long shackle. Loop the cable round something (some charge points have a tubular frame) and then lock it back to itself. At home fit a gate hasp to the wall under the charger and run the cable through the padlock shackle.

Better do this to deter the potential tea-leaf, rather than have them try to force the connector out of the socket and damage the car.

Regarding my original post...erm... it was user error .... and the cable locking function is fine.

The car has a user profile of "guest" when new. My son, trying to be helpful, had created a new profile and in the new profile the "always lock" setting was not selected. In the various tests I performed with his assistance the new profile was sometimes the active one.

Even after we became aware of this and made certain that both profiles had "always lock" checked, we still appeared to sometimes have a problem when testing the functionality. These subsequent tests were done on public CCS charge points and it is now apparent that the cable lock function is not simply a hard-wired function purely controlled by the car, but "always lock" can be overridden externally and this seems to be what happens on CCS charge points.

When charging is terminated from the CCS charge point, (either 100% charged or via the stop button on the charge point's screen) the car's cable lock is disabled irrespective of the setting. Obviously, to test this it's necessary to approach the charge point / car without the key fob otherwise the doors will unlock disabling the lock anyway!

I'd assumed that the cable locking function was purely under the car's control & can't see how this works unless a particular state of the CP line state is interpreted by the car and overrides the "always lock" function - or maybe something happens using PP line although that's not connected between each end on a 'normal' cable?

I found that the little green 'charge cable inserted' icon in the bottom left of the dash is different when "always lock" is selected compared to "lock when charging".

Assuming that this function is there to prevent cable theft it is logical that it only applies on occasions when you are using a non-tethered cable.
