Does anyone know how to update the sat nav definitions? Can these be downloaded from somewhere? Any hacks for using open street map data or any other open source data?

No, only looked into it briefly. No doubt you could update the SatNav yourself from this site but I assume the MG annual service will take care of that. Best confirm that though!

I have Sygic Car Navigation on the iPhone. It runs well via CarPlay and the app itself is updated quite regularly. It does not have EV charge points POIs as yet but I have requested that and the Sygic team are looking into it.

I went onto the site and registered, where it then prompts you to download Naviextras Toolbox. When you run Naviextras Toolbox it says:

"If you have a portable navigation device, please switch it on and connect it to your computer via a USB cable. If you have a built-in navigation system, first create a fingerprint. Then remove your vehicle's data carrier (e.g. USB key or SD card) and insert it into your computer. Naviextras Toolbox will automatically detect your device."

I don't remember seeing the option in the MG to create a fingerprint? I will have to search for that some more. Can anyone shed light on creating a fingerprint?

Anyone with a ZS EV tried this site yet? Can you update your car?

I have down loaded the tool box, prepped my usb stick and then down loaded the software.
Placed usb back into car and gets about 3/4 through and then the unit resets but has not updated.
I did see a message on the 4th try saying do you wish to update satnav but before I could hit the yes button the unit reset and rebooted but did not update.
I've given up now as its dark and i'm cold:rolleyes:
I'll try again in the morning.

I'll see your point, but what good is a satnav if it sends you though the most direct route, but is collapsed due traffic?
If the phone fails, you can still use the car satnav, anyway the updates in the UK roads are not that frequent, you should be OK for most of the 90% of the roads. And that is assuming they won't charge you for the updates ( which most manufactures do)

Just got my MG (Netherlands). I'm having the same issue.

I have worked with NaviExtras many times. Usually it shows the updates that are actually updates. So if they pop-up, they are newer than what's in your car.

Mine has ZS11_EV_NAV_41.64_190813_R for software version. The one presented to me in NaviExtras is 2019 Q4. Going by the version number I would think my current map data is Q3-2019 (2019-08-13). So I would imagine the Q4 is in fact a newer version.

Still at about 70% the nav just reboots and goes on as if nothing happened.

I think that there is something wrong with the head-unit software. NO matter what I do the update process crashes after about two minutes. Conversation with NaviExtras (people who supply sat nav.software) left me running an update that rendered the sat nav broken. Still waiting for a fix before I go back to dealer :(

That's what happens to mine but I am assuming that seeing as my car was delivered to me at the end of January it already had the Q4 2019 update done. Hence why it quits after 2 mins as it cannot update what is already updated?
I could be wrong but that's my thinking, but it would be good to get a definite answer on this for future updates.

I have been looking at the MG Touch Naviextras page. It appears that there are two 'models' MG ZS EV Europe and MG ZS EV Western Europe (UK). I assume the correct one is the latter but would selecting the update for the former provide all charging points POIs etc for the UK?

Also are the updates a chargeable item? If they are will MG dealers give you a voucher or update code that can be redeemed to obtain the updates?

Anyone have any other information about the MG Touch Naviextras process and has actually performed an update?

To answer my own question .... successfully updated today to the latest Q4 2019 satnav release (I got my car before the latest release). What I did ...
  1. Download the Mac OSX or Windows Naviextras Toolbox software (MG Naviextras link above) to your computer.
  2. Registering an account on-line at MG Naviextras.
  3. Format a 32gb USB flash drive as FAT32.
  4. Plug the USB drive into the car's right hand USB port. Power on car.
  5. Select Setup/System from Infotainment screen.
  6. Select Update Navigation.
  7. Appropriate files are then written to the USB drive following instructions on Infotainment screen.
  8. Remove USB drive and plug into your computer.
  9. Launch Naviextras Toolbox application.
  10. Naviextras Toolbox displays MG ZS EV Western Europe (UK) as the installed software.
  11. Any updates available are displayed. I saw that there was a FREE Q4 2019 update available.
  12. Download it. It is installed it on the USB flash drive.
  13. Eject the USB drive.
  14. Put the USB drive back into the right hand USB port in the car. Power on car.
  15. Select Setup/System again.
  16. Select Update Navigation again.
  17. Follow on screen instructions to install.
  18. Exit back to tri-colour main infotainment screen.
NOTE: After install I powered off the car and on again. The infotainment screen would not switch on! :( To fix this if it happens, press and hold the infotainment screen on button until the screen goes blank. The system then reboots and works normally. (y)

I was passing an MG dealership today (not the one when my car was sourced from, but theo ne where my Kia has been serviced fr the last five years, in Pennant Hills, NSW, Australia) and spoke with their resident MG expert - she advised that the first map update needs to be done using a USB pre-formatted with software supplied by MG, and also warned against trying any other way, as you might corrupt the head unit software (she used the technical term "fry") and the warranty won't cover getting that fixed.

I don't have a resolution yet but it's back to the deaership to get their service department to bring my mas up to date and supply a USB with my fingerprint on it, after which I can either do updates myself or ask that they do them as part of the service plan.

I will update ths forum with ny developments.
