How do you get the wi-fi in your house, direct from the router or via a mesh type system? if the later you may need a Powerline fix like they sent me. It only uses 2.4Ghz same as the Pi, since installing that last Friday my HV wi-fi has been rock solid. I spoke with Amy she sorted me a free Powerline wi-fi extender it seems the HV won't play nice with some wi-fi systems.

Mesh - TP link Deco M5. I guess that’ll be the next step if they can’t figure out to make it work via software tweaks. There’s some chat about swapping out the Wi-Fi adapter inside the HV unit though.

A powerline adapter is a poor work around that may not be all that reliable either, I detailed the problem and a more accurate workaround in this thread including why a powerline may also fail

In this post I refer to a powerline adaptor as an extender

Thanks for that, but as it's working now that's ok, if it starts playing up they will have to fix it again and whether that's a firmware issue some parts need changing or even hard wiring we will cross that bridge if it comes along.😐

In that case then god knows what's wrong with it. Fortunately can't see me ever using mine on scheduled charging so as long as it is dumb but still can charge I am not that bothered other than for the folks that do want to use that facility.

These so called smart chargers are not that smart in reality as quite a few smart chargers seem to have their issues. There is a lot to be said for a dumb charger that works by simply flicking a switch or pressing a button to turn on and off. However the government are making those illegal in the summer I hear.

Mines been ok since a power cycle this morning so it’s definitely much better than it was when first installed a few days ago. Have just test rebooting the mesh system to check it would reconnect okay and it did so that’s positive.

I quite like the schedule feature because it effectively locks the charger when my car isn’t in the drive - but having it unlocked is probably not much of an issue in reality.

Having similar problems as everyone with my HV that was installed at the end of March. They have arrange a company to visit next week to swap the SD card, I’m guessing this will be a firmware update.

Mine is on the edge of my Wi-Fi signal so I had put the drop outs down to this and have ordered some Ethernet cable to hard wire it as well.

Already had mine on a separate 2.4 SSID. It’s a problem with the USB Wi-Fi adapter they plug into the Pi to extend Wi-Fi range. Doesn’t play nicely with some mesh systems. For mine, they’ve now disabled that USB dongle OTA, so it’s instead connecting directly via the in-built Pi Wi-Fi adapter which should be more stable. Less Wi-Fi range, but range less likely an issue with a mesh network anyway.

Fundamental flaw with HV is zero connectivity redundancy on most installs and complete reliance on Wi-Fi. Recommend everyone get installer to wire up Ethernet connection too as a backup, at least until they add 4g in future models.

You will have to let us know the outcome of this. If you are still not having issues in a couple of weeks I might see if they will do the same. If not I can open the thing and unplug 😋

I am still have issues with data on their side which is still not resolved 2-3 weeks later. But the drops are more annoying.

So, I finally got a call back from Hypervolt (1 week after sending email). Got escalated to Level 2 and a guy phoned me back.
  • He confirmed that when wanting to check 'Current Network Status' on the app, it will ALWAYS look for Bluetooth first (which being very weak means you virtually have to be stood next to the unit). I said that's just weird!
  • He advised there is an issue with cars 'waking up' when on 'Schedule Charge' in as much as the signal the Hypervolt sends to wake the car up at the required time is often not being noticed by cars.
  • He advised there is a known issue with the start/stop button on the app in that it can have a delayed reaction. They have got to the point where thye will either find a final fix for it OR REMOVE THE BUTTON ALTOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!
  • He told me I should be able to do the basic 'change LED status' over WIFI. I tried that and it came up with an error message. He was connected to my charger at teh time and saw it lose comms and couldn't explain it. He went away to investigate further. That was yesterday afternoon. Not heard from him since.

My charger is now stuck in Schedule Charge mode as cant connect to it to change to Plug and Charge due to comms error.

I told him I was not happy that this is a significant outlay for a 'smart' charger when he has admitted that all 'smart' aspects of the charger have known faults.

It did become clear that there was a whole amount of setting up that the INSTALLER didn't do, including contact Hypervolt to register the installation, so as far as Hypervolt were concerned I didnt exist!

I appreciate they are start up, and it was refreshing to get some honest input from the tech guy, but to be honest I dont think this product should even be on the market yet!

They've sent me a WiFi repeater*, and the charger has been fine now for a week. It is all a bit buggy, but the support has been great.
The app does throw errors, but if you kill it from the o/s and restart, it is fine.
Presumably I can just connect the repeater to the ethernet connector on the charger?

Hypervolt sent a local installation company around this week to change the SD card. The installer was here around an hour, spent quite a bit of time on the phone getting it connected but it’s been online for 2 days now which is the longest since having it installed.

Although it does make you realise how basic the app is and how pointless the cost/tariff features are when it just takes the ‘national average.

Since ours was fixed by a wi-fi homeplug extender about 3 weeks ago however in the last 5 days it has fallen off wi-fi a couple of times. To get the app working again we have only had to take the phone within blutooth distance (inside the house) from the Charger and the app latches on again so we can access control over the charger.

I am still waiting to see a smart feature.

App cannot tell how much the consumption cost. Cannot tell you how much was consumed correctly.

Cannot be accessed via any smart integration.

all yours for £600.

bargain.

It is essentially doing what my £15 smart plug does. Turns on and off at a set time. However my smart plug seems to maintain it connection to the network better.

Well after my difficult experience with Viridian, I've purchased a hypervolt 2.0.

Installed it today and everything is working well. It's showing that it required a firmware update which has to be done remotely so hopefully they'll do that tomorrow.

I've installed it inside a 400x400 enclosure and it fits (just), although I'm starting to think I should have had it out in the open as the lights are snazzy :ROFLMAO: .

I've got the app working ok, but given that it's inside an enclosure and about 30ft away from the house, I was surprised that it got a "reasonably" stable wireless connection. It does say that will be improved with the firmware update though.

Had the update to the latest firmware completed today. Bit of a faff in the end as the wifi wouldn't stay connected long enough for them to do the update (which in itself is supposed to rectify this issue).

I ended up just making up a long patch cable at work and connecting it directly into the router. Did the update fine that way and I've reconnected it, this time on the 5ghz frequency. It did say the signal was worse than that of the 2.4, but so far it seems to be keeping a stable connection at about 24mb/s, which I imagine is plenty for what it does.

See how it goes. Mine is currently not connected?? However it still does the timed charge so I have giveup caring 😋

shame it has these issues.

If yours stays connected for a month I will see if they can update mine.
