So just spent some time looking at storage options for the Bonnet and thought it would be good to try and tie it all into one thread for others doing the same...

169 Euros from Ireland inc postage - Looks great but expensive (£164)

From Germany cheaper but postage costs sting (wonder why it's so expensive to post to UK?) £54 approx inc postage

Will add to thread any others and the DIY options as I find them, looks like a bussiness opportunity for someone in the UK?

The MVC&U Regulations are the type approval regulations.

They are amended often and there is no ambiguity over the legality of the Hyundai forward or reverse warning sounds.

People objected to all sort of safety improvements, right from the day they decided you needed a man with the flag walking in front of the car. Brake lamps, reversing lamps, flashing light indicators, seat belts, airbags, halogen headlamps, xenon headlamps, matrix headlamps, daytime running lights. People have objected to all of these on some grounds or other. Even anti-lock brakes were the subject of much discussion when they were introduced.

Google “children run over on driveway” or “visually impaired people run over“ and you’ll find plenty of people who might have benefitted from additional safety aids.

This is the Frunk.at unit. It doesn’t have a lid, which perturbs some but it fits exactly under the bonnet and the bonnet insulation itself becomes the lid. Surprisingly it’s watertight. Its plenty big enough for what I want.

Its very similar to the Irish one but the goes back further under the bulkhead.

it doesn’t look that massive a compartment until you see the size of the bag that fits into it.

That’s got my 15m Metron granny charger cable in it.

And the front compartment is pretty deep too.

I‘m exceptionally happy with it. It’s not cheap, and it’s not ‘value’ in the sense that’s it’s a huge amount of money for a bit of moulded plastic however it is TÜV Austria tested, so I can legitimately use it and tell my insurance company etc. and I know that it doesn’t change the car’s pedestrian safety rating, which I know has been a concern for some people.

I doubt that the other boxes are any different in terms of safety but part of the reason the Frunk.at unit is more expensive is that it has been tested and can be used with the knowledge of my insurers although I wouldn’t like to say what impact it could have on the warranty.

Hi an update on this for those looking for something I was going to buy the E-bay one but the one I listed is just for the metal supports - Not very clear in the description but saved me an expensive mistake as you then need to buy a box to fit on the metal supports. £54 - From Germany but looks like E-Bay takes care of taxes?

£98 if you want the brackets and a 35 Litre box - again not sure if E-bay deals with VAT and Import Duty - I think they do?

The Ireland option is good but smaller than the German one - With a discount code it comes in at 168 Euro - but the kicker is that you then need to pay VAT, and Import Duty and a handling charge to DPD which raises it to around 215 Euros (£188 approx)

BTW - This is not mentioned on the web site, you have to know the new post Brexit arrangements to work out the extra tax - I am sure you are all aware of these now arrangements...

The Ireland guys are really friendly and I used chat to discover the extra costs that DPD will take care of and charge you a £5 to do on your behalf...

The German site via Google Translate does a great job of navigating the web shop and the basic Kona starter kit - with anti slip mat, divider and bag is base 218 euro but again you need to add VAT and import duty and handling charge so that brings it up to around 280 euro (£245) depending on exact import duty...

56 Litres for the German Box and 47 Litres for the Irish version.

I was hoping some one in the UK would be producing them but alas none that I can find...

So now podering the best option...

I am still waiting to find a Brexit Benefit for myself... (While VAT is collected for HMRC the added friction and red tape makes you wonder how much we lose from the new approach...)

Anyway just thought folk looking for a Frunk might find the hidden costs useful to know...

How wonderfully timely, I've just committed to replacement of my 28kWh "Classic" Ioniq, with one from the final months of production, so I'm in the market for a thirty-eight frunk to greet its arrival, your sharing of the discount code is most welcome, thank you very much.😇

Just Paid DPD £40.34 for the Import Duties that included a £5 handling charge so £35.34 of taxes for HMRC... I hope they spend it wisely....

With the exchange rate it was £148.17 for the Frunk so a total of £188.51

DPD are IMO one of the best delivery companies and very impressed with the automated system to collect the Tax. Also they usually give you a 1 hour window and you even get to track the driver showing where he is on his rounds on a map - so happy they are using a quality company.

I guess £188 (although my Yorkshire blood winces when I say that figure) is worth it to get the cables off the back seat as we tend to have the dog in the boot and the extra space in the bonnet will be very useful...

Final Frunk update, it arrived on Friday so a pretty quick delivery considering I ordered it on Tuesday. Installed it this morning very simple and straightforward just pull off old cover and carefully align mounts and push on.

Simple!! anyone who can reach into the engine compartment could do it as pretty light and no real strength needed to pull off the old cover or push on the new storage system.

I'm terribly disappointed, my frunk package upon delivery didn't contain the extra-lovely option that yours featured in the photograph.🤗🐶
