Does anyone know if hyundai are planning an update to introduce wireless android auto? The lower trim kona has it, and it makes sense to have it. Plus the car has WiFi built in.

If not- does anyone know a good dongle in the UK? Coming from a car with wireless to wired is a minor inconvenience when I'm in a rush. :(

There should be an update sometime in the next week. If we don't get wireless Android Auto then I expect you'll have to go the dongle route.

I think it would need extra hardware to be able to be used
That's a very interesting question. If you go into the engineering menus you can see the 10 inch screen systems do include wifi, you can see details of the chip and run diagnostics. But currently the wifi isn't used for anything so no way to tell if they connected an aerial or just had the chip on the board because it came as part of the package.
If it's just lacking drivers then they probably could turn it on fairly easily, but if there isn't an aerial it's not going to happen.

I use a CarLinkIt2 plugged into the USB port next to the wireless charger. After the first connection your phone just automatically links when you get in and turn on the car. Just like a wired connection. Works fine for calls, Spotify etc too. Always thought it was pointless having a wireless charger if you must have a wired connection for CarPlay. I’m using it with an iPhone 11.

US update is out.

The Display audio update (which I think is for low spec US Kona's) has Kona electric 2021-2022 (improved connectivity of wireless Carplay and wireless Android Auto) and Kona electric 2019 (better remote access with seamless connectivity between display audio system and bluelink server).

The Gen 5 infotainment update for the US doesn't really seem to have much that is new. On the other hand they're touting the black map display as new so perhaps the US is just lagging behind the RoW.
