So I went in to Kia Taunton for the ICCU update and the dealer has disabled my car.

While performing the update the tech clicked on an update that shouldnt have been available and this has disabled the car.
It now needs a new IBU unit which is currently on back order until November !
Dealer has put me in a e niro but I need the range of the EV6 so waiting to see what they can do.

The car is 4 months old and is a company car so we may will be going down the route of rejecting it as not fit for purpose due to extend wait for parts. The car is not leased its owned by the company I work for.

An excellent suggestion. Our Sportage came to us new with a headlamp fault (wouldn't select main beam/auto mode). The dealer obtained permission from Kia UK to remove the necessary part (switch) from a showroom model to avoid an uncertain wait.

I am very sorry to hear that. Good it's a company car. This happens with a privately owned car and you're b*ggered...

Kia once again shows dismal customer service. It should be impossible for parts to be on back order for 4 months. We need laws that force car manufacturers to pay a hefty compensation for such long wait times.

I am pretty sure we will be going down the rejection route. I am the fleet manager and I have been here many times before.
TBF the after sales manager at the dealer said to me we broke it the ICCU update should not cause a problem they uploaded a file to the car that they shouldnt have. The dealer has said I am not the only one many dealers have done the same so be warned tell the dealer to check which files they are loading !!

You'd also think if this happened a lot there would be an undo method to put back the original software just how it was. It's a poor update process if it can't do that.

Matt Prior in Autocar writes today of manufacturers unable to fix cars they have launched onto the market, e.g. Volvo (Geely), Jeep (Stellantis), and this continuing issue with this car stinks of the same sort of problem. I am reminded of advice from family, to wait for some reassuring car history to evolve, before purchase of any car. NB it would be my own money, not from any business source.

No grumble as yet. They dropped a e niro off on Saturday and the guy said the parts have come forward to September . However I am a high mileage business traveller and I need the EV6 range.

The e niro won't quite make the trip I do in one go. Therefore wasted time and extra charging at 70p plus per kwh.

I have asked for another EV6 loaner and they are looking into that today. If they dont come up with one or the parts are not available fairly quickly then we will probably reject the car.

Bricking hardware through a firmware update should be impossible if the manufacturer is competent. At the very worst case there should be a minimum bootstrap that allows any version to be applied on top.

The better manufacturers are confident enough that the updates are applied over the air. But even then they have a staged rollout with the option to stop it if any issue is reported before they do a bulk push.

Had my ICCU update done a month go. For the first week it caused no issues, then suddenly the car won’t accept AC charge (DC still works). I’ve had my EV6 for two and a half years, and never had any issues with charging - is this a complete coincidence? If so it’s a hell of a coincidence.
Annoyingly there’s no Kia garage that can get me within a month.
