I've checked my car in for a check of the AirCon after the recent hot weather. On a recent trip, I logged the start and finish cabin temperatures. The Journey was 12 miles and took 23 minutes. Starting temp was 40.3° and finishing was 39.8°. The return trip took 33 minutes, start 41.7°, finish 37.3°. It was so unbearably hot that I had the windows open some of the way. I'm pretty sure some (most?) of the cooling effect was due to having the windows open, though of course that defeats the air conditioning (such as it was).

My car doesn't have the heat pump and the temperature was set to 16°. I would have expected the Air Con to be blowing ice-cold air, but it wasn't

A couple of days earlier, I had a short 2-mile trip, start 25.8°, finish 26.5°, still set at 16° but was blowing warm air.

They are going to charge an up-front 90-odd quid for the test, fully refunded under warranty if they find a fault. In your experience, is my Air Con faulty? It's certainly not behaving as I would expect, and compared with my previous Leaf with heat pump, which was brilliant, this is dire.

Just a check not sure how the ID3 works. The aircon hasn't been turned off via button push or in the infotainment system? I know for the zoe I own lots of confusion if its off or on as the light is on when it's switched off but people assume that's the on position. All aircon systems have a heat pump regardless if its used to heat the car.

Just an update on my situation. I'm keeping a log of start and finish times and temperatures. Today the external temperature was 24.5°. This was a 5 mile journey that took 18 minutes. Starting cabin temperature was 26.9°. Temperature on arrival was 31.2°.

I do a fair bit of volunteer driving, and today was one of those trips. I have a booking with my local dealer for 4th July to have the Air Con fixed. When I got back from my trip, I drove straight up to the VW garage to say driving the car was like sitting in a sauna, was pretty much unusable, and could they sort this out sooner. Nothing available, so I won't be driving anyone anywhere until it's sorted.

Thank you for your contribution. I'm fully aware that having the windows open defeats the effects of air conditioning, and would never have considered having them open in my Leaf. However, there was no option on the longer journey(s) as otherwise I was effectively sitting in an oven. Even on the shorter journey, I do not expect it to be blowing warm air into the cabin, which it was, on all journeys.

As for high ambient temperatures, I don't expect to be sitting in temperatures 10 degrees (that's Celsius by the way, seeing as you are in the US) above the outside temperature. Opening windows in this case allows the warmer air to flow out of the vehicle, not vice versa.

The air conditioning in my car is not working. Proven.

Good news! The car is in the workshop today for the air conditioning. Just had a call to say that the pressure (?) and temperature sender is faulty and needs replacing. (I know it was two things - I think he said pressure). He said sender, don't know if he meant sensor. They don't have the part in stock but will have it tomorrow. Which is fine by me as I had allowed for it to take more than one day to fix. The main thing is that the air conditioning will be working again. Yippee!

They've fitted the new pressure and temperature sensor and the car came back today. I'm realising what I've been missing! I'm going to have to up the temperature as it's far too chilly now :)

I already had the car booked in to Marshall's Kidlington (the nearest HV battery place) for the battery recall, but my local Marshall's in Newbury were able to do the checks at the same time as the repair. If it passed, I wouldn't have needed to go to Kidlington. However it failed on the first hurdle as the guy put it. So that's still on. They were also going to do the 3.2 update, but they said they couldn't do that until the HV battery was sorted so both will get done at Kidlington at the end of the month.
