My ID 3 lease is up in 2 months so I'm planning my next EV. Is the ID 4 a big upgrade? My car is the ID 3 Family, 58kWh (201bhp). I'm in the UK. I sat in the ID 4 at the dealer and it felt plusher, but it is quite a bit more (about £90 per month on lease).

I've an ID.4 (Since March, 12,000 miles) it's finally "stable" after alot of bugs in the s/w, and was given loan ID.3's on every occasion. My impressions - as Kbfen said and in addition, the ID.4 offers a significantly higher driving position, softer ride & obviously plenty more space, interior trim slightly nicer in the ID.4 with soft plastic (although there is a potential re-fresh to the ID.3 interior looming). The ID.3 offers a more "responsive", "nippier" drive. I've the ID.4 77kw First Edition, stated range is 310miles, I would genuinely say it's more like 270 in good/summer and as low as 240-250 in colder weather.

This is very helpful, thank you! I'm leaning towards the ID 4 just for the space. A small range decrease is a worthy compromise.

Another thing I intend to do is get a home charger, I never bothered with one because my work has one at 22kW. But I've got a new job and no work charger! What do ID owners use mostly? I've heard good things about the Wallbox Pulsar and Ohme Home Pro. Looking for tethered.

I don't have an ID3 or 4 yet but after test driving both for an hour or so each car, ordered an ID4 end Sept for delivery next March hopefully. I liked the ID3 for it's drive and would have gone for it but for the extra room in the boot, cabin & more limo like ride, and also like LS99 said higher driving position.

It felt more akin to my 2018 Tiguan for comfort and as we don't do too many miles these days (6k-7k pa and mainly shortish range drives) so went for the 58kw battery.

This is the charger I have - at the start of the year was £200 (so it's gone up £100), the software works well for the Ohme, and it records your spending historically, as well as giving you versatile charging schedules, using lower rates from your provider (ie octopus 5p/Kw overnight - and most importantly it "works" ... unlike the ID3/4 charging via the car - that just "forgets", "looses" settings or just doesn't charge !

Size wise (I've had a number of VW's) ... I would say the ID.3 is similar size wise to the Golf hatch, and the ID.4 externally similar to the Tigwan, internally wider, with alot of rear leg-room for passengers.

Having had ID.3's (as loan cars) for well over 20 days in total ... I can say the ID.3 is a nice car, probably worth considering over the ID.4 for "around town" and shorter runs (if you don't want/need the space of the ID.4), easier to park in tight/smaller spaces than the ID.4, and "nippier" ... but if you really want the space, and a slightly more "luxury ride" the ID.4 does it.... (my humble opinion - anyway) ...

I ordered my ID4 life in Kings Red metalic 52kw end Sept and was told end Feb early Mar. I chased it with the dealer last week and he told me build is scheduled for week 50 and then allowing for shipping from EU to UK and then on to the dealers he thinks the delivery originally stated should be about right.
