ID7 Tourer possible next car. Any good?

Hey guys. The Tourer is on the shortlist for the next family car as I need the space for potentially 2 kids (1 at the moment) and a decent but lower rear entry boot for the dog and child paraphernalia. On paper and pictures it looks good but haven't seen one in the flesh yet but I know there out in the wild so anyone got any opinions and views? Thanks in advance!

We've had one a month. Big car - huge boot. Rear seats v spacious - easily get 3 in back with space. Lots of nice features even on entry level. Range is what I expected (its winter so getting about 240 miles on a full charge on motorway at 75mph with heating etc on). Camera system good and my wife (main user) has managed to park it without incident thus far. Drives well and doesnt feel as big as it is on the road. VW app isnt great but does the job. Some insanely good values on a lease at the moment - maybe worth checking out rather than buying.

I have the 77kwh Match pro. To be fair those figures are motorway/dual carriageway miles with zero effort at battery conservation. The route out of Devon isn’t exactly battery friendly. My mileage figures have been been skewed by several 200 mile motorway trips during our ownership to date. I’m leasing through my company and the ID7 is a steal at the moment for the value of the car.

I could lease through my company but am buying a lightly used one with the exact spec I want. Hoping to keep it a long time as a family car.

Not concerned about range at all, as they are very efficient and charge fast. Did very well on Bjorn Nylands 1000km test and he's said if he needed to buy a family car, he'd be very tempted by one. In my book, that means quite a lot. One of the VW guys, or lady actually, in an video said they engineered the car to be most efficient at 140kmish for the autobahns. Not 100% sure that checks out but sounds good.

I’m not too concerned by the range in the sense the Niro has more than enough for us but slow charging speed. It was more that buying a car with 5 years more R&D and better battery tech would go further. As our work plan includes insurance, wear and tear etc and no upfront fees with the option to buy at the end, it makes sense to do so. Plus I can spec it how I like as most dealerships don’t have a clue what’s on the car. My second hand e-208 GT I was told had none of the advanced features like blind spot or ACC as it was a Covid car with chip shortages. Turns out the only feature it’s missing is the wireless charging pad which means I probably got a better price for it than I should but it’s put me off buying a bigger family car we will keep for a long time (I’m also keeping the pug for a long time too but you get my point).

I'm just awaiting delivery of my ID.7 tourer. This is a stock vehicle (apparently the lease company has a bunch of them and so I could pick my colour but not much else). According to the VW website the standard build of the Pro Match has what I need but I have seen that some things listed don't exist like the boot opening by waving your foot under the bumper. Can anyone confirm that the following features listed as standard (with no option packs) actually are? * electric memory seats * massage seats * matrix LEDs * HUD I don't know the build date of the vehicle but I'm assuming reasonably recent. It is being registered on December 31st. Thanks and hello!

1st EV so can’t compare but this didn’t surprise me. I’m cynical of the WLTP. My other car a RAV 4 PHEV supposedly has great mpg but gets 41mpg at 70 on the motorway. No different really. Manufacturers claims to sell cars vs reality. 240 real is still useable in our current experience- it charges fast enough on a long trip. Will see what warmer weather brings ….

@MJO I've driven a lot of different EVs and I found the gap between WLTP and real world can differ significantly, even in summer temps.

The reason for asking you a bit more about your iD7 is that in winter temps on motorway with heating on, I'm losing just under 19% of range vs WLTP number on my BMW, and on warm summer days, I can either meet or exceed WLTP range at motorway speeds with climate control on.

Anyway, not having a go at you personally, and I'm happy you are happy with your car :) Fingers crossed you will be exceeding WLTP range on hot summer days!

Check out ‘Battery Life’ channel on YouTube, the guy has done extensive testing of just about every model, at every speed in every weather condition!

I have been looking to replace my 2019 Tesla Model 3 with an ID.3 but the Travel Assist is a non-negotiable feature and it is hard to find a Pro S with it fitted. Therefore I have been looking at the GTX Performance -- which I would be happy with but I suspect my wife would not!

So my thoughts have been turning to an ID.7 -- although it raises other issues as my wife always found the Tesla too big. Although it is my favorite ID variant I too feel a bit embarrassed to be driving such a big car as a retired empty-nester..!

However I am finding it easier to find examples with low mileage and lower prices than the ID.3 GTX..

I am very familiar with Battery Life's excellent set of videos. But for those in the know are there any reasons I might need to be aware of when considering a two-year old Pro Exclusive as opposed to a more recent ex-demonstrator?

Size wise, while they are big, they are really quite manoeuvrable. They remind me the Ford Monedo I had many moons ago in terms of actual size, which I never felt was an especially large car.

Out of those I can only be an occasional tip-goer...!

In any case I now have a final verdict from my wife.

Given the choice between:

a) an old-school big family car that's bigger than the Tesla, with a relaxed, comfy ride, exemplary motorway stability, masses of luggage space, which I can even get for less money...

and

b) a hot hatch with a boy-racer interior; GTX labels on seats that look like trashy gaming chairs and whose alcantara and red stitching create an ambiance like a teenager's man cave...

... she'll take the man cave..!

Also - in one of BatteryLifes id7 videos he found he could get more in the boot of the non tourer!! Personally I love the look of a good estate.
To be honest if we didn't have a medium sized dog (plus 1, hopefully 2 mini humans), I wouldn't be looking at it at all. Shes just fed up of all the new cars with sweeping roof lines and having to take a deep breath when the boot door closes so it doesn't clout her on the head.
