I know I know the manual says dont use an extension lead - but occasionally i find myself needing another meter or two when at a relatives house for example, and wanting a little boost. I've read lots of articles of people using extension leads on Teslas without issue - I did end up using a generic one, but it got fairly hot pretty quickly. so I went about looking for a proper 5m one for the boot

I was going to make myself one 2.5mm flex and all that jazz - and then I came across - Tough Leads in the UK with built in RCD and waterproof socket - they even explain why 1.5mm core is better than 2.5mm core for these applications.

If people are interested i'll report back when it arrives this week

I too have recommended them on here. I also tried to get them to be a site sponsor but got no reply...

We've just bought a 10 m extension lead from Tough Leads mainly for use on my wife's I3S if our Zappi is being used to charge mu M3P. It may also come in useful on any future road trips if cannot get access to wall chargers/public chargers and have to rely on 13 A supply. The lead looks pretty tough and has a robust weatherproof plug socket. We've tested it on the I3S without any issues.

Great link - thanks. I like the inline RCD option.

I also like the water-proof / protected socket box. However, thinking about it, while that box would protect the UMC’s plug from the elements, the UMC body (including the connection to the 3-pin adapter lead), would still be exposed. So, ideally there would be a long box to hold the complete UMC plus adapter cable plus 3-pin plug in socket. Or, a second box just to protect the UMC. I believe the UMC is splash proof, but it wouldn’t enjoy living in a pool of rain, so this could be a legitimate issue maybe?

By the way, I have a high-quality 8m extension from another company that is also good for leads with 1.5mm cores - Industrial Extension Leads (https://www.industrialextensionleads.co.uk/). I believe they have quite a few Tesla and caravaning customers.

I know this may sound a bit "Heath Robertson" as a solution to the UMC getting flooded by the rain.
What about purchasing a large plastic food storage box, like a Tuppaware or Lock & Lock with a removable lid.
Modify it by making two holes in each end to accept the cable, then fit the UMC inside the box and refit the lid !.
It might sound a bit Meh...... but it will protect the UMC from the elements that's for sure !.
We have such a "Lock & Lock" that we currently use to keep our bread fresh, I could see this going missing real soon !.

Sit the 'charging' brick on something around the same footprint to keep it off the ground, cover the whole caboodle with a large plastic box and then put something on top to weigh it down. No cutting, gaskets or grommets required. The charging brick on a household brick, covered with the plastic tub and another brick on top.
