Just Bought An EQA 350. Questions...

Well my wife bought one actually as we needed a second car after our baby was born. Anyway, I've flicked through the manual, Googled some of these questions but for the life of me I can't find any straight answers. So I'm hoping you experts will know...

1) The current display in the car shows the remaining miles left. Miles is utterly useless information to us as it's inaccurate and we would rather see the state of charge. Is there a way to change this to percentage? We've gone through all the menus and settings and can't find a way. Hopefully someone here knows.

2) Does one pedal driving exist on this car? Again, we've been playing around with the regen settings but can't seem to find one where it allows one pedal driving. We have to apply the brakes for the car to come to a complete stop. Funnily enough, we're not used to using the brakes anymore as we have one pedal driving in our Tesla Model 3. It just feels odd haha.

3) I was reading through some of the threads on these boards about setting a schedule to charge the car. It doesn't exist?!? Really?! That's absurd considering most people who own EVs have a time of use tariff, including us.

Any helps would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi welcome to the world of Mercedes!
I had a 21 EQC using MBUX NTG 6 software and there is NO facility for setting a charging scheduling a ridiculous omission Mercedes corrected with the EQE onwards (even then it has an odd way of phrasing that is confusing when you first come across it about time when charging is not allowed instaed of a simle stop start time for charging🙄)
You cannot change the drivers display to inc SOC (again the EQE onwards shows both) but it can be accessed from the EQ button and thé EQ screens on the 2nd display (that has 2 or 3 screens inc consumption SOC and vehicle charge I think) we often left ours on that as it also shows when the car is coasting and in the case of the EQC if it was running front wheel only or in 4wd.
Re one pedal driving Mercedes are not particuarly set up for it but the max regen setting (cannot remember if it is d++ or d-- one or the other) is the best you will get. This is because Mercedes recommend dauto as the most efficient way to drive the car and it is in my view. I am no fan of one pedal driving always having to have your foot on the accelerator to make the car move feels counterintuitive to me, dauto is like driving an ICE in that regard you can lift off and the car will coast ie use no energy……it also will slow at junctions and tight bends using regen. I love it but after driving a Tesla it may feel very different and less enjoyable to you. I will say though it is the route to the best efficiency.
I know there are some other members with EQA experience who may also comment and at least one with the ability to directly compare Tesla and Mercedes unlike me as I have never driven a Tesla.
Feel free to ask any questions on the Mercedes iteration of BEV or their apps will do my best to help.

Unfortunately you’re correct and all your problems are genuine. You’re not doing something wrong!

However these problems aren’t unique to Mercedes. A few manufacturers have been in this journey. What seems obvious to us is something the highly-paid designers take a very long time to learn.

I have a VW iD4. VW had the same issues but fixed them with software updates rather than requiring you to buy a new car.

In the iD4:

It took VW years and several failed attempts to get charge scheduling that actually worked. Consumers all knew this was basic functionality. It blindsided and flummoxed the designers.

All iD cars now show percentage SoC. But this took several updates to include.

Legacy automakers are convinced their customers want an ICEV-like driving experience. So they don’t include one-pedal driving. This is another thing that could be included in a software update.

(Just be grateful you didn’t have to put up with charging speed being displayed in “kWh/h”!)

edit to add: I think Parkwood above knows better than me! I suppose my experience is possibly a newer MBUX...

I have recently some experience in another EQ merc but not the EQA, still I think the MBUX is fairly consistent...

1) I am afraid what I was driving had the percentage charge below the miles remaining (it also gave a "miles max" range, which is quite a nice feature, presumably showing the best you can get if you start driving efficiently) so I am not sure why your percentage isn't showing. Perhaps your driver display is in a mode other than "classic" (you can switch the views by pressing the home on the right side of steering wheel and swipe through the options

2) One pedal kind of exists, but you need to turn "creep mode" off (still makes me laugh...) it is under settings > driving > vehicle then there is a toggle for creep mode. With that off it will regen/brake to a stop and then hold.

3) not sure about that sorry, my Zappi does schedule/intelligent charging for me.

Good luck and apologies if my help isn't helpful due to software differences...

You are correct that MBUX reasonably consistent but there seems to be a difference with NTG6 used with the likes of EQC and EQA and B ie those with the long screen integrating the two display screens and the newer EQE/S models with either the hyperscreen or the large central display. These apparently run NTG7 NOW I am not sure if the newer EQA have been updated or not but suspect the differences are in fact related to screen real estate etc so until the EQA has an internal refresh it will stay NTG6. Nick Leary did something about it on his YouTube channel which is worth looking at for anyone with a Mercedes.
I should have pointed out an intelligent wall charger is the solution to Mercedes failing in installing programming in the car, a real pain for me as my charger is only plug and play But that seems very rare in the UK.
Re creep mode control that was not available in the EQC so I assume the EQA is the same……new ones might not be but I suspect again the refresh will bring those benefits.

Is someone called me??🤣

On the subject. We are Tesla M3P and EQA 250 family.
There is no 100% one pedal driving with the EQA
No schedule for charging
The only way you can see % on your entertainment screen is to pres the ⭐ next to the touch pad on centre console and move two to the right. This will shows battery percentage, gliding, drive or recharge mode at the moment.
As I've mentioned when we got the EQA, the software is very sleek and fast but not yet to Tesla standard.
However, reading @Parkwood response above, looks like Mercedes starting to catch up (charging schedule)
But Mercedes being Mercedes they have sorted it on the new cars but no updates for the "older" models.
Well...one day perhaps but not today 😉

@Odinias One other important piece of information regarding EQA.
The battery used on Mercedes EQA 250+ is the same battery as 250: 300 and 400 EQA cars. If the EQA you bought is anything other than 250+ it means that you have 13 kWh buffer...yep, this is not a typo. The battery on 250/300 and 400 is software locked, so you can charge to 100% without any worries for degradation. My wife EQA 250 is just over 2 years old but had "high" mileage when we bought it (26000)
Last week a friend tested the battery using the same app as Bjorn Nyland using on his EV tests on YT. The result is...Battery SOH is 100% after almost 31K miles now. My wife chargers at home but she is using rapids very often as well "Just to be sure" that have enough charge to get home???? (30/40 miles from home with car showing 80/90+ miles 😅)
Bottom line, Mercedes covered themselves against battery "degradation" by having 13 kWh buffer, so from this point of view...nothing to worry about.

We have the EQA 350. I've been telling my wife to charge to 80% just to be safe but if 13kWh is locked as a buffer then I guess there's no harm in charging to 100%. I have to say, I'm very surprised by that as 13kWh is quite a lot of capacity!

To everyone else, thank you for your responses! Really appreciate the help.

So to summarise, there is no way to do one pedal driving (I tried looking for a setting to turn off creep mode but there isn't any) and there is no way to set a charge schedule. We do have a zappi charger so I can set a schedule on there but from what I've seen it's not very straight forward.

I'll play arond with the star button to see if I can get the percentage to show up. Thanks @Padrino!

As I've mentioned above Mercedes are using the same battery pack for the + model and this is listed as 77 kWh and 74 kWh useable. We are charging to 100% every time. With 13 kWh buffer there is nothing to worry about.
