Another insightful piece in The Times today with the revelation that if you're regularly travelling from Land's End to John O'Groats then maybe an EV isn't the best choice.

I look forward to his future pieces on how a 2 seat roadster is not ideal for transporting large furniture, or that a Range Rover Sport isn't great if you're on Universal Credit.

It was so desperate. They thrash it so they have to recharge before Gloucester services, and learn they can get from 25% to 79% in 20 minutes. Yet they then stop at Gloucester for an hour - “a lot of waiting around on long trips in an EV” - to get to 98%. Much more likely that the full English breakfast they had there took them an hour, so they squatted on a charger that someone else might have needed as the charge trickled up in the 90%+ range.

The next thing that happens is they arrive in Ambleside after a bit of a detour to see some old haunts with only 11% charge and the hotel doesn’t have chargers. Really? You didn’t even stop for a pee break and a driver swap anywhere else? No lunch, no coffee break? Or maybe you did and deliberately didn’t put another 20-30% charge into the car because that would have spoiled the story. Ditto not asking in advance about chargers at your destination. The receptionist ”suggests Booths in Windermere” - the ”journalist” neglects to point out that they must have driven past this 4 charger Instavolt site with less than 20% charge on their way to Ambleside.

Next day, on the way to Aviemore, they stop for food and coffee at two service stations where ”ooh there’s loads of fast chargers here”, but don’t bother to use them, even though they “knew a pit stop would be needed”. Instead they stop at a different place for lunch than they intended, and have to “scramble“ to find a charger.

And so on. It must be really difficult (and soul-destroying for anyone with any integrity) to still write this FUD when you know it’s rubbish.

They really tried to make it not work. There are several options and they picked taunton deane, literally the worst option short of gordano services on that stretch.
I get the stop at glouster services but they majorly exaggerated the wait given it was their breakfast stop.(the unnecessarily early stop at Taunton possibly caused the longer wait.)

The lake district bit was farcical. They drove to their hotel that they knew(would have known when booking) didn't have charging and didn't bother to check before arriving at 11%. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail comes to mind here.(kendal services and windermere would have been on their route before they had issues)

Similar with Pitlochry, plenty of options before then, I managed Perth to Inverness in a van In one go so not sure why they would be having any issues there unless they are supremely incompetent

Pfft.....
Last time I did LEJOG took eight days, but that was on a bicycle.
No electric assist for me.
Why people freak out about this kind of journalism is beyond me. There's a hefty percentage of the population who don't want anything to do with EV's.
Who cares, I'll happily make use of all the advantages of EV ownership before the hoi polloi are forced to abandon ICE.
Theyre whataboutery is my gain.

I think the main issue is that it's deceptive reporting(but not easily disprovable fud), without knowing how stupid/malicious the charging stops are it's likely some people would believe this and not get an ev (that otherwise would have and have no issues)

I see he went for the full kiddy-fiddler look.

The other moron went unseen when clicking through but what a waste of space.

Look the Mac Master is an entertainer. You don't take serious financial advice from let's say Noel Gallagher do you? He's a very astute guy. Buying and running a Taycan mostly funded by making YT videos saying how rubbish it is. It's given him reliable transport and hundreds of hours of sellable 'content'. In fact, most of the issues he has are actually Porsche issues tbh . When his lease is up in late 25 he'll have to find another muse.

its annoying due the fact that people that dont really know about ev's who could sway either way are convinced by these fools that they catch fire, batteries die, long journeys are impossible and easy charging is a far off dream when in reality owners know different.arsemaster is special he manages to play both sides at the same time-his issue will be when he gets yet another ev while hating them just so he can inform his followers how bad they are in 2025.

Regular LEJOG EV record holder here đź‘‹

Yeah he's done a lot wrong - the charging to 98% being a biggie. However 16.5 hours driving time isn't that bad, we did it in 15h46 with up-front planning and optimised wheels and tyres on a Model 3. The current (unofficial) record is 15h24 by R Symons. The heinous part is stretching it over 3 days though - seriously doubt he would have done that if trying to prove the point with an ICE.

Meanwhile, these days I regularly do trips like this with zero up-front planning.

But it's interesting how the media like to trot this FUD out every year or so. They get called out, sometimes with practical evidence, then they wait for the collective memory to fade and then do it again. It's normally the papers on the right, but the Guardian has form as well.

So he had a better time going downhill then.
Reminds me of the Mallard!
