Hi, where i live we have lots of cars parked on the road so have to cross the white line in the middle of the road a lot when driving around, which with lane assist on means ifs forever going off alerting you, i have found in the menus how to switch this off as shown in the photos below, which then deactivates the option, which is fine but the next time i then restart the car the option is active again. is their anyway to stop this reactivating every time. Thanks

I can live with the LDW, but the alert that really annoys me is the 'Keep your hands on the steering wheel!' PING.
Even after two and a half years it find myself saying through gritted teeth that my hands ARE on the steering wheel. Of course it's wanting the steering wheel to be jiggled at intervals, as if this validates the assumption that one is actually steering, but it's often the case that the road is straight and doesn't require any turning of the wheel, however minor. So annoying that I wish I could at least stop the PING even if the message still came up on the dash.

It's easy to turn LKA off with the button next to the VESS button but need to do so each time the car is started. It's one of the buttons I press whenever starting the car (along with VESS and Auto Hold). It would be nice to be able to default it to off but I believe it's required under European law to qualify for the safety rating (yes, even after Brexit!)

Three years on and the the LKAS still infuriates me.
We live off a narrow country lane and 75% of the time, in the middle of a specific bend, the car nudges you towards a the nearside hedge. Although I have come to expect it, I worry that returning home after a long drive it will push me off the road.

Yes its annoying as someone who did advanced driving years ago I have the habit of not indicating if no other road users will benefit from the signal. Its a way of keeping up your concentration and anticipating what the other drivers are around you are going to do.

You are also trained to "straight line" bends to minimise steering input, even if that involves going into the right-hand lane (obviously when no oncoming traffic)

So, to get the bip-bip-bip and have the wheel resist you whenever you do that can get on your nerves.

hi all
just bought a 71plate E-niro 4+.
This immediately made its way straight to the top of the list of things I need to sort. The LKA practically grabbed the wheel off me on a winding B-road and scared the ***t out of me. And I was not straight-lining a bend. if the LKA/LDW setting was able to default to LDW and persist after a restart I'd be ok with the LDW beep. If the master on/off switch was able to default to off, I'd of course be ok with that. I don't want to debate with anyone who thinks this feature is a good one to have "on" - everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don't agree...

so - is there a reliable way into the systems of this car by ODB or otherwise to change this permanently? I saw the mention of the comma device which I had not heard of before, a quick skim read suggests that there must be some protocol access to the LDW/LKA system with the right tools? I don't want a new self driving tool just turn off the bits I've got?

and/or anyone done a low tech DIY electronics hack to automatically press the master switch every restart?

I think a lot of people in this thread are conflating LKA (Lane Keep Assist, pretty much Lane Departure Warning (LDW) beeps replaced by "last moment" steering inputs to prevent you leaving the lane, controlled using the button near the VESS button) with LFA (Lane Following Assist, giving continuous automatic steering to keep you centred in the lane, controlled using the steering wheel button). They are completely separate systems!

I agree. The cars LFA via the steering wheel button is ok - and it defaults to off , as it should be. I have used it on motorways, its not too bad.

on the other hand LKA/ LDW is awful. beeps are fine, I can cope with those if I have to. What I can't cope with is a steering wheel input that pushes me towards the hedge or onto the other side, on a winding fast B road. The big problem I have is that this defaults to on - in the LKA mode that pulls at the wheel. you can switch LKA to LDW on the dashboard menu and it goes back to LKA every restart. Grr. to my mind that makes the car less safe - as in LOSE NCAP points, not gain them!
I'm starting to develop a muscle memory now that as I pull down my local road, I check the dash and the little white car between the lines symbol reminds me to press the LKA/LDW off button next to the VESS (although I don't have VESS button, I have a blank, its 71 plate. I got a button from aliexpress that I'm going to DIY for this, another story).

so - has anyone found a way - including going in via ODB or similar , to turn LKA/LDW permanently off?
