Hi everyone,
I recently emailed Morrisons to find out if they were planning on putting any charge points in my local morrisons... they kindly emailed me a list of the morrisons with charge points, so I thought I'd share.

ooOOoo Morrisons have some as well? Good to know.

Not a single supermarket has installed chargers in my own area, so it's still a relatively new 'thing' to me. Ironically living in an area where the supermarkets haven't installed chargers means that places I would like to travel to are more likely to have them :p

There are chargers at the Sheffield shop, but they are constantly ICEd as they are fairly near the shop, have poor signage, and have been there a very long time with almost no use. Unless something changes I would suggest that nobody expects to use these chargers and relies on them being available. Such chargers are essentially pointless.

Houghton Regis store (a newish (november 2012) store), replacing a smaller one a few hundred metres away) does indeed have four points, nicely tucked away from the store entrance. Signage, but unmarked bays. All four outlets on two eletromotive posts were vandalised with the covers ripped off; spiders had made webs. Posts couldn't detect charging from the vehicle, and the vehicle didn't detect any power.
Customer service staff said "you're the first person who has tried to use them", and they didn't know they were broken. No labelling or post identifiers for fault reporting. The posts accept CYC cards but aren't labelled as such.

Reported to in-store management.

Hi Jules - probably a bit far from you to be of use, but the new Sainsburys which is currently being built near the football stadium in Boro is getting chargers too.

The university ones are pretty good too - we've used them on weekends no problems. Zetland car park not worth bothering with - 3pin plug and you are limited to 2 hours. Car park behind Captain Cooks Square has been offline for a few weeks.
The best one is Stockton - Bishop Street car park - just off the high street - rapid charger :)

Houghton Regis ...
reported to in-store management.
I also reported it to Morissons Head Office, who after a while said their maintenance teams will look into it, and that I should probably report problems with the charge points to Elektromotive.. So, belt and braces, the on-site management, head office, and their charge point supplier are all aware of the problem now. Maybe it might get fixed?
Maybe it will get properly marked up and turned into an official CYC post, like other Morrisons branches?

Update: Morrisons Houghton Regis has one working point. I tried two other outlets. Still with a broken cover, but I got a charge from the left hand post, rear outlet, with my CYC card. Didn't show up as a transaction, so it's not an official CYC post.

When I was charging, the staff who were smoking in the smoking area (which is right next to these points) said they'd never seen anyone use it before.
  • They are tucked away at the far end of the side of the store, away from the entrance, you'd only notice them if you drive to the extremities of their car park - but at least it means they're never ICEd
  • it isn't on the National Chargepoint Registry data, so this means it won't show up on most online maps, or car satnavs. (I've added it to Openchargemap)
  • It's not mentioned on the store information on Morrisons store finder part of their web site.
  • There is no usage information on the posts, so it's only my past experience that taught me to try CYC on random Elektromotive posts.
  • They have been vandalised, and mostly don't work.

So, in terms of murky backwaters of public charging infrastructure, it's nearly got a sign on it saying "beware of the leopard".

If it says "Present your CYC card", then it's probably a default config on an Elektromotive post - Elektromotive have a fairly large interest in CYC, and as such, CYC are Elektromotive's preferrred back-end for the posts they provide. Did a CYC card work on it? If so, no problem.

I've seen quite a few of those, they're often misconfigurations - they should (ALSO?) accept different cards, but I'm happy to have a charge that works. If it's not listed on the CYC maps, then CYC won't know if there's a fee with the charge, and it will probably just work for free.

The one at Wells (if it is Wells Somerset) is not on PlugShare or ZapMap. It makes a big different to have it there in an area with very limited public access charging. Thanks for the info.

I took a trip to Morrisons in Cwmbran today and found that they do not have a charge point. Asked in store and they confirmed this

Update on Wells Morrison's charge point. The superstore is off the Wells end of the A371 (Strawberry Way on the Google map also now called East Somerset Way). Enter the car park and turn left just before the store building. Drive to the end and turn left and the charge point is then on your right, clearly marked bay for EV's. It's CYC and operational.

Update on Wells Morrison's charge point. ...
It's CYC and operational.
It's not officially CYC, because it doesn't show on their maps, it's probably just accepting CYC cards by accident of the fact that that's the factory default at the Elektromotive factory - CYC app won't be possible because it's not properly registered with CYC. The installers or Morrison's haven't got around to registering it with CYC.

I used Morrisons at meadowhead in Sheffield. 4 posts. 1 tag for the whole store to activate them. Most ice'd.

For the tag you pay ÂŁ20 deposit. I did so, took the tag back.

Little did I know that I would need the tag to deactivate. I just pulled the plug from the car. It asked for the tag but I didn't have it and then after 2 mins it reset itself and released my plug. Is this normal, Is it okay to do that?

Ps only had my car 6 days. Still learning
