I've noticed that now that the roadworks are nearly finished on the M3, the 50mph speed warnings on my ZOE have mostly gone, apart from a couple of short stretches. This suggests that speed cameras are automatically updated.

 

The tomtom map update and speed camera alerts are two different packages, costs wise at least.

 

I'm interested more in the speed limit display in the top left of the sat nav screen.

As limits are being lower my sat nav is showing a higher limit, and points don't make prizes.

 

I once got a speed camera alert on a road I travel on most days. Just around the corner was a mobile speed camera van.

Similarly I got an alert on another frequently used road. Then I saw a new speed camera that wasn't there a few days earlier.

These events made me think they the car itself detected speed cameras. Can't be sure and very surprised if it does but I can't think of another explanation. Never bought any updates to maps etc. Any thoughts?

 

You know, I only noticed the same thing two days ago - a junction near my house had a mobile speed detection warning displayed on it.
I suspect Tomtom Live picks it up from somewhere - Waze perhaps?
Maybe something that they've just enabled, I haven't see a mobile warning before.

Allegedly, I've never seen anyone who can confirm this as being true!

 

How would the free update work mine was bought 2 weeks ago and has an outdated map but wants £49 to upgrade it

Can you get a code of Renault for a free update

 

Case in point.... I've never seen anyone get a free update.

 

My R240 delivered new in April 2016 came with 945 (Feb 2015) and was updated using R-Link website to 950 and then 955 (Aug 2015).
You update the SD card using the R-Link website, which should alert you to the newer version.

 

Well seems like I am out of luck on the Map update, bought mine on the 15th Nov.

When I got home plugged SD Card in and it updated system etc and it seems also updated the map in the background to v990

Been told as it did that am no longer entitled to the update to 995 that came out on the 28th Nov. as only 1 free update in 90 days from purchase

My point was that car should have come from factory with latest map rather than having to use that as free update. but they wont budge on it,.

 

995 is Aug 2017 so is still prior to your delivery date, as I expect you already know.
My car definitely updated twice in the 30 days, I remember ringing Customer Services and asking when the updates were coming through as the latest Renault maps were at least a year behind TomToms.
My guess is that Renault Customer Service (if that's who you spoke to) do not know how to sort this out.

The R-Link upgrading method is a bit awkward, I once downloaded an upgrade for R-Link (not a map) and the download had worked but somehow it didn't get to the SD card.
Maybe worth trying R-Link again, it can be unreliable, you obviously should have the latest map up to your date of purchase at least, and that is how the R-Link store worked for me.
