Anybody else having problems with the My BMW app not connecting to the i3?
Cannot update 'Check Status' change charging or use remote functions. Updated yesterday only.
Have reset iDrive.
This is the latest version on iPhone and older version on iPad.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Many app issues can be resolved by removing the app altogether. Then download the latest (again) and with a fresh install all should be well.

Export anything you wish to keep beforehand.

I don't know anyone who has needed to do this for a BMW but it's common for some other vehicle related apps that some updates need a fresh install to work.

After seeing your post I checked both Android and iOS apps, they were both v2.9.3. Each retrieved the last posted status which was yesterday in my case (I think this is held on a server somewhere, not at the car). I just upgraded the iOS to v2.11.0 and it also retrieves the same status data; it was happy to send a door lock request.
On starting the app after upgrade the app knew my login data so that means it tries to hold data persistently when the app changes. When I get problems on upgrade for any app I often delete all app data (or remove the app and reinstall) then log in again. This is worth a try, perhaps.
Unless our BMW is charging it seems that it posts status updates on or shortly after door lock and these get held somewhere in the interwebs then the car does periodic updates based on some logic that I haven’t fathomed

Thanks for the quick replies.

Have logged in and out and also deleted the app and reinstalled.
Still not working - see the car but not updating - also lost charging history (annoying).

Spoken to BMW Connected Drive customer services - were not aware of app issues but have sent a refresh to my i3.

Will wait and see... thanks again guys!

Perhaps your missing functions are now chargeable via the Connected Booster Package option which now supplies:

BMW Online

With its online-based mobility services, BMW Online always keeps you well informed while travelling to your destination. Get news, weather forecasts, or local information right in your BMW. You can also use these services abroad thanks to the SIM card installed in your vehicle.

eDrive Services (for Electric and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles)

With eDrive services from BMW, finding the next charging station for your vehicle is easy and convenient. With eDrive Remote Services, you can remotely check the range and charging status of your vehicle using the My BMW app.

Real Time Traffic Information

Real Time Traffic Information gets you to your destination faster. This feature offers you the current traffic situation on available road directly to your vehicle and automatically calculates alternative routes if required. It also warns you of adverse road conditions or accidents on your route.

Remote Services

Always keep tabs on your BMW's surroundings. Remote Services and Remote 3D View allow you to use the My BMW app to view your vehicle’s surroundings from any angle, lock doors, or trigger the headlight flasher. Remote 3D View is only available with 5DN Parking Assistant Plus.

Hi there, I have had the exact same problem: no updates or connectivity with my 2016 i3 through the myBMW app for 2 days. Tried replacing the fuse for the telematics box but didn't work. The GPS tracking option has disappeared from my Settings menu in the vehicle now too. Definitely seem to be problems. Have emailed BMW about it. Will let you know what they say. Lost the charging history functionality of the app a while ago but wasn't too much of an inconvenience. Losing all the basic app functionality is a major problem.

Just started working again (the basics anyway, no charging history still). I'm not sure if what I did solved it or BMW fixed their servers, but on the car I updated BMW services and tried to connect with BMW online which at least tried to make contact with their servers. Worked after that. Still curious to hear back from BMW, on the charging history and missing GPS tracking option in settings at least.

I sold my BW i3 back in September 2023, and on a recent new phone back up - the My BMW remote app restored itself (I hadn't realised it was still on) and I can still see my old car, but at its new address and I still have remote access to it!
How can this be possible? It should not be up to the end user to decide to disconnect from the app, there should be some built in failsafe as this seems really bad. I have contacted BMW directly but they did not seem to be bothered? I have deleted but surely I am not the only one?

How can this be possible?
Because there is nothing in law to prevent it from happening? Legally there is nothing to force the seller of a car to inform BMW when they have sold it. So how would BMW know with certainty that one of the cars that is registered with the myBMW app has changed ownership?

If you wanted to solve the problem properly, you would need to integrate every manufacturer into the process of changing a car's ownership, and that process would be different in every country where BMW sells cars. So (IMO) it's very unlikely to be solved properly - it's likely to remain a problem to be resolved informally by old and new owners of a car together.

I think with Mercedes once the first 3 yrs is up you actually have to subscribe to have the benefits of using Mercedes me ie pay a subscription and if you do not services are switched off apart from the obligatory emergency call and service elements so things like remote opening and closing etc so that way they control who has access as without the account and subscription the services no longer work and people will not subscribe a car they no longer own.
