My P45 I5 has had its internal software updated to allow for OTA updates. Box is “ticked” on screen. So now what happens? When will it update? Had a drive today of 30 minutes and was hoping it would update or download etc “Upload” button is darkened out.

 

The OTA updates seem to be drip fed - took forever for the first one to arrive on my P45

 

So would it be worth doing it the old fashioned way as a USB update on computer & plug it in to car. Sounds like a useful update as to do with EV charging on routing but may be not that impressive in real life? Have you had the update yet?

Been trying to download it all morning but it’ keeps getting stuck at 0%

 

Done the first bit. Computer to USB stick. Took 40 minutes. Will try the second but now. Hope it does not brick anything! Need the car for a trip this weekend.

 

It won't brick anything. As far as I understand the system has two partitions. One for the current system and one for the new one. After copying it runs a checksum check and only after that passes will it activate the new partition.

I have never heard of someone bricking their car with an update.

 

It took five attempts to upgrade my Kona's infotainment to the latest version when I got it in February (it was still on the version that it left the factory with) but, each time it failed, it just rolled back to the existing version.

I haven't tried this latest version yet.

 

Just done the update. 40 minutes in car USB transfer. Still a tedious process. Let’s see if it’s any good. Ironically after I finished, the screen notified me of an update and to scan the QR code.
Still got the odd “Check Lane Change Assist Function” amber warning near end of process but cleared by itself.

After plugging in the USB stick, the Kona has always displayed an initial message about no media files being present (presumably because there aren't any). A few seconds later, it starts the update process. My old Ioniq 38 was the same.

 

Did use the new (I think) waypoint EV charging destination, on a journey from South Wales to Somerset and then onto NE London. It chose GridServe at Reading E on the M4. Plenty of HPCs but all full by the time I finished my charge at 11.30am.
There really are a lot of EVs on the road now but nowhere near enough rapid chargers, especially for sunny weekends when everybody seems to be travelling here and there. I was lucky as just pulled up and plugged in. But queue forming as I unplugged. I was plugged in for just 13 mins. Went from 18% to 65% in those 13 minutes at a constant 173kW.

 

Won't modern car do the update automatically ?

 

You kind of get very used to OTA updates in a Tesla. They are reasonably frequent and generally very simple to initiate - much like Amazon's one-click purchase capability 😅

It's only when you move to other cars that you realise, they don't do OTA anywhere nearly as frequently or seamlessly as Tesla do.

 

I got round to updating our ioniq last night, the process went smoothly enough.

Unless I'm missing something... what have they done to the main screen? It used to have lots of information on it; media on the left, EV things in the middle, and navigation on the right. Now though it has a clock and very basic media on the left, and a silhouette map that is too dark to see on the right. Most of it is empty and black.

If you go into the media player or map you can get the split screen thing going, but that's more presses and still isn't as useful as the old main screen.

The main plus side so far is that it doesn't try to navigate through a hedge near work like it used to, but I'm not sure that's worth making the main display pretty useless...

@Phil Himsworth - did you get the correct version for your car ? the pc software allows you to input the current version, so you get the correct upgrade.

Anyone else contemplating this, its dead easy - but take your phone or a book, as mine took over half a hour !

 

You probably had the version before. The one he’s talking about is the 2021 (and before) 3 window version. Was much more informative, this modern version is less useful.
