Nissan free charger installation

Interested to know how long can I expect to wait for the free charger installation to happen.

I got my 2.Zero Leaf four weeks ago, and I was told to expect contact from Pod Point in a few weeks to arrange a date but I have heard nothing. Not getting much joy from dealer when I try to chase with them.

What experience have others had with this? I am getting pretty frustrated - presumably with the standard government grant I would have my charger by now.

I think you still have to manually place the order on the Pod Point website, it isn't automatic.

The price listed on the website changes depending on the car you tell them you have. For example, when I selected a 2017 Leaf the price for a 7kW POD is ÂŁ95 including government and dealer discount. If I select a 2018 Leaf 2 then the price drops to free due to the larger dealer discount.

I don't think anything is going to happen until you actively place the order with Pod Point. They aren't going to contact you.

I believe the free charge point offer also includes ChargeMaster if you prefer.

I second Hooloovoo - our recent purchase included a PodPoint, but we made initial contact with them ourselves through their website. You might also want to check that your house has a 100A main fuse - ours didn't, so we had to get that fitted (and will finally be getting the PodPoint hooked up this weekend!)

I had a similar issue. I had to nudge the Nissan dealer to place the order with PodPoint. The first email from PodPoint conveniently arrived the day after that nudge.

The PodPoint installation experience was great though. They were quick and easy to deal with once the process had got started.

On the website it says you can claim the free Nissan installation, but when I try it says it will cost me ÂŁ279 (for 3kw unit).

How do you get it to recognise the discount?
The very first step after clicking "Get started" is to enter your car make, model, and your qualifying dealership. Once you do that, both the 3kW and 7kW pods will show as free in the next step.

I can see both viewpoints here but it seems that Nissan has either failed to follow through with the order to Podpoint or Podpoint is sitting on those instructions until contact is made by the customer. Perhaps a pincer movement is required to motivate action from both directions. Obviously, something has been lost in translation over whatever admin is required to obtain the Podpoint charger. And that has to be Nissan's fault if their customer wasn't fully advised over the process to follow. Ask them to clarify how they think this should be handled. And also ask Podpoint the same question. Then ask them to speak to each other at management level.

When I placed my order for the 40kWh Leaf 2.zero back at the end of December 2017, the website mentioned the offer of a free 7kW charge point installation and that I could claim from either Chargemaster or PodPoint. The full T&C did make it clear that it was my responsibility to place the order with my chosen provider, the dealership never mentioned it and I never thought to ask.

I eventually cancelled the order so I don't know what happened all the way through to delivery. It seems to me that the error here is with the supplying dealer saying to expect contact from Pod Point. Certainly I never saw anything or was told to expect any automatic installation. It was always implied that you make your choice re: Chargemaster or PodPoint and deal with them separately to Nissan as soon as your had your official Leaf order number.

Clicking through from Nissan Leaf Deals through to "**Free 7kW Home Charging Unit, for full terms and conditions" at the bottom gives the T&C:

3. Customers must submit the application for their home charging unit (via one of our Approved Charging Suppliers) within one month of their vehicle registration date. Failure to submit by this deadline will make the offer void, thereby no longer entitling the customer to a free home charging unit.

4. Customers are also required to take installation of their charger within three months of their vehicle’s registration date.

8. Please speak to your local Nissan dealer for more information about how to choose between the Approved Charing Suppliers, and to place your order. Installation will be subject to the chosen Approved Charging Supplier’s terms and conditions which are available on the below links and should be reviewed fully before you place the order:
I remember reading the above terms when I signed up in December.

@LawrenceW I hope you haven't left it too late to apply. At least on the Pod Point website there seems no such restriction as to the free installation only applying to orders within a month of vehicle registration regardless of what 3) says above. All Leafs, new or used, get a free 3kW Pod Point installation provided you ordered through a dedicated dealership and are eligible for the dealership discount in addition to the OLEV grant. The new Leaf gets a free 7kW Pod Point, where the old Leaf has a discounted cost of ÂŁ95. I know this for sure because I'm just about to have the ÂŁ95 offer installed after purchasing my used 2017 Leaf from a dedicated dealership.

@LawrenceW Nissan will provide the full cost of either a Pod-Point or Chargemaster 7kW home charger. This is outside the OLEV grant system. I had a new 7kW Chargemaster fitted to replace my old 3.3 kW and was paid for by Nissan.
It did take quite a lot of chasing up the dealer, Nissan and Chargemaster however. Don't give up!

In addition to the OLEV grant. Nissan cover the balance after the grant.

It's really nothing at all to do with the dealer, and keeping them out of the loop will likely speed things up.

Clearly, this is how it should happen. The dealer is the one who contracts with Podpoint to order and pay for the installation. Podpoint would not accept instructions from some random car owner claiming a free unit without clarifying that they would actually be paid by the dealer. The dealer to confirm eligibility and then the supplier to liaise with the customer to arrange access. The customer should not have to jump through many hoops to get their entitlement.

Thanks very much for all the comment and advice. I rang Pod Point and they sorted it all out.

There had been some problem with the online account which meant I wasn't offered the free option.

I am annoyed that my dealer (Ancaster Shepperton) gave wrong advice to a very simple question.

Glad you're sorted now, but to add my experience: after getting the order number for my car, I went to the PodPoint web site, and went through the ordering process. When it got to the payment stage it passed straight through then on to the OLEV bit as I remember, i.e. it realised I didn't have to pay anything.

The charge point was installed before I took delivery of the car.

This is 100% exactly what is supposed to be done and how the installation happens.

I contacted Pod-Point and they said they couldn't help. Said they didn't know anything about it. Sort that one out!
I have a CM one instead.

Seems Nissan and perhaps other makers as well still need to have their EV specialists dealing with the EV sales and handovers rather than have someone who hasn't a clue deal.
