NissanConnect and 3G shutdown

Not sure if this has been discussed but a few weeks ago I go an email about 3G being shutdown and eventual switch to 2G starting 31st December 2022.

As it said in the email, getting charge status etc has been extremely difficult since start of the year. Happy days.

Thinking further, is the SIM replaceable in the TCMS module ?

Almost certainly won't be a physical sim card even if it was possible to change anything, also the unit won't have the lte modems etc, so it's falling back to an edge connection.

Have to replece the whole unit, and have it coded, and the software coded for the drivers etc. Something that almost certainly won't be (easily) possible.

It's possible - someone like Muxsan might offer an upgrade at some point. It won't be cheap though.

No WiFi in a Gen 1 / Gen 2 classic style Leaf, and probably no 3G to be honest.

I remember in the US they had the opposite problem a few years ago - 2G being closed down on the networks the Leaf used and the TCU only had a 2G compatible radio - in the US market at least. Nissan were retrofitting them with a 3G compatible version for >$1000 US for anyone willing to pay...

It will almost certainly be a T-Mobile de or Manx Telecom sim, as that's who they all use and they roam on any network that the modem has an aerial for. So probably 1800 and/or 2100mhz hey maybe even have 900mhz as well. (edit thinking about it, probably 900 and 1800 as 900 is the 2G 'standard' around these parts and 1800 is a divisor of the 900 spectrum, so would make sense, and those are the orange/ee spectrum, along with O2 and Vodafone for the 900mhz spectrum, so would make sense)

Problem is, most of the operators are re-purposing those ranges for lte connectivity nowadays, hense the 3g death. The 2g spectrum has to be kept though, as its a much better penetrating spectrum, and needed for emergency services and the likes.

Pretty sure EE only have 1800Mhz left for their 2G. The rest has been reused elsewhere.

2G ~900Mhz: O2 + VF
2G ~1800Mhz: EE

3g is being re-purposed in phases, may be just that your area is shutting down or switched to LTE already.

But as for areas that are still enabled and 3g available but not working in the car, who knows, I doubt they have changed firmware, maybe just the 'sim cards' that they are paying for, they no longer pay for the service, or the provider no longer supplied 3g data rates? Who knows, if the telecoms partner no longer provides 3g services, then perhaps its just that easy, it's become eol and anything using that generation of sim is sod out of luck then.

Still working on my 2016 30kwh Tekna.

Is pod point compatible with intelligent octopus. It controls the charging on the leaf via app. Turns charger on and off
Don't think so - as noted earlier, the app can start charging, but can't stop it.

I wonder if we can find out which chargepoints Octopus are investigating for integration with Intelligent. The only one ever mentioned is Ohme, but would be nice to have a bit more of a choice. Oh... that said, their site does mention a new untethered model coming soon - will have to keep an eye on that.
