OBD2 reader I can leave connected?

I've just got a 2017 leaf and have used leaf-spy on it (not the pro version yet, I'm not sure if I need that), to get it working I borrowed a dongle from my other car which worked fine first time but is far too big to be left in place permanently given the location of the port.

Are there any OBD2 readers I can leave permanently attached and still be able to close the cover whilst fitted?

I use this one
Like @Hermit Dave I just put the cover away and leave it always plugged.
They have an auto-sleep system so after a few minutes in idle mode they will turn off.
You will have to press the power button on it to activate it.
Because the cover fits very close to the socket you can't plug a dongle with the cover.
Edit note: Maybe you can get a 2nd cover and cut it to fit around the ODB but that is too much work for me so I just leave it out.

Ok, I did wonder.

The issue with the one that I have currently is that I think I'd catch it with my leg when getting in/out if it was permanently fitted. It's not huge, a lot of them seem to be the same size but I have seen some that are lower profile.

yep, that's a bulky one.
you can always use an extension cable and hide the dongle away, if making one make sure you install the cable going to the side instead upwards so it saves space and maybe will aloow you to put the cover over it.

I bought one of these for ÂŁ8. I leave it permanently plugged in it is very low profile and works faultlessly. I bought Leafspy Pro and amd very satisfied with both.
