Does anybody have any particular recommendations for a 12V battery jump start kit?

I was looking at the Noco Boost product range, which seem to get lots of positive reviews. But I can’t figure out which is the appropriate model for my requirements. I want one which will work with my new Kia Niro EV and our Skoda Karoq 1.5 litre petrol car. The Noco website differentiates their products primarily by Amps (eg. 500 Amps for the Boost Sport GB20, 1000 Amps for the Boost Plus GB40, 1500 Amps for the Boost XL GB50 etc.). But I don’t understand whether I need anything more than the basic 500 Amps rated Boost Sport GB20.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

They usually state engine size as a rough guide. For example up to 2l petrol.

For EV only, any cheapest jump start kit will do the job. There is no large amp requirement compared to starting an ICE. All it needs is maintain the voltage to get electronics working. I'd guestimate 12v 30A will do.

So you should base your requirement on the 1.5l petrol engine. Probably better to ask in an ICE forum?

Yep I second the Halfords thing above

I joined the 12v Death Club very very suddenly ... I ended up cycling to a Halfords, buying one of those things, took it back home and without putting it on charge I plugged in under the bonnet ... Job Done ....
In fact 5 further times that day - again without re-charging it.
So it def comes with enough to get you out of jail the first time

The following day I used it again and then - funny this - plugged it in to the car's ports in the cabin to recharge the errr jump starter . Spent a few days doing this, using it to get the car going then topping it back up every other day from the car. Crazy huh

PS - keep it inside the car cabin, ie glovebox, under the front seat .... lot of BEVs you can't easily get in to the boot until you have started the car. Yes frunk is ideal if the bonnet release is cable pull.

Joining Halfords motoring club gives a decent discount.
