Replacement Door Mirror

So, through straightforward pilot error, I clipped the passenger side door mirror on my 22MY Soul recently. Inferno red with black roof and mirrors.

The mirror glass cracked in multiple places, but held together. The main mirror body shows no signs of damage and the power fold. electric adjustment and blind spot monitoring all work.

The car was scheduled for it's 20K/2 year service, at a local Kia dealer this week, so I asked them to look at it and let me know about a replacement.

They quoted about £635. They claimed this was based on the fact that the mechanism behind the mirror glass was damaged, hence simply replacing the glass was not possible and this simple fact necessitated an entire new unit. Not only that, but they don't come in black/ready painted? The new unit has to be acquired from Kia parts UK, then painted and only then can it be fitted to the car. Wow, bonkers.

I cannot help thinking there must be a more economical way to get this done. Has anyone gone through a similar experience and willing to share how to do this for a more sensible/acceptable cost?

BTW, what a great little car it is - the perfect intro to driving a BEV.

From what you have been told a replacement glass only should be available from Kia. It is worth trying that first. Before you order take the old glass out and have a look to see if there is indeed any damage that would prevent just a glass being fitted. It’s quite common for door mirror bodies to come unpainted. If you need the complete assembly it’s worth finding out how much that is pre-paint. You’ll find the sealer will charge the earth to get it painted. It might be much cheaper getting it painted yourself.

OK thanks all. Sorry for delayed reply but been away for a while. Luckily, I have found an auto salvor in Bolton breaking a Soul EV FE, so now waiting for a nearly new NS door mirror to arrive and will then get it fitted by local Kia dealer Brayleys Oxford.
Originally, they told me that it is possible to replace the mirror glass only and that would be about 30 quid. However, when they go to see the car, they decided a new glass was not going to work and the only proper fix was a whole new unit, which come unpainted - and as Cocijo points out, it's the painting that costs the most. Now hoping to get the job done and good as new for about 250 quid, which is a lot better than 600+

So, the mirror arrived this morning. Called Brayleys to arrange fitting. No answer so left a message. They did not call back – and still haven’t.
In the meantime, thanks to an item on the “Youcanic” channel on You Tube, I decided to have a go at fitting it myself. A bit of care required to avoid dropping any bolts down the back of the door card, but 20 minutes and the job’s a good ‘un. Power fold, power adjustment, indicator and blind spot all working fine. I assume therefore the heating will do too. So a potentially £650 job became a £200 one – result! Very satisfying and if anyone else suffers the same issue/incident, I can highly recommend this route. Just need to be lucky enough to find the right part on the used or aftermarket.
