Unlikely as it's run by Westmorland (Tebay, etc). It was Gridserve a few weeks ago when I was there, so I'd guess, like Tebay, it will go to Westmorland chargers and some Tesla only. Westmorland was cheaper than Gridserve.

Booths in Penrith with Instavolt (2100-0700) with Instavolt app or RFID (better) is as good on their cheap rate times, but avoid peak pricing.

 

Tesla at Gloucester north and south, also run by Westmorland are open to all, so you never know.

 

This is not the one at the Tebay services this is a new one further north on the edge of Penrith.
Believed to be a 30 stall location but no real construction has started yet so not open anytime time soon.
I would expect it would be open for all.

 

When I last drove past Rheged, admittedly several months ago, a big sign said there were 30 tesla chargers open to all coming soon.
I'll be down there again in a couple of days so will check.

 

aha! Open to all is a very good sign. Seems this will be good both for the M6 and for Lake District visitors coming and going.

Although from the sounds of it probably not open before my next planned visit in a month or two.

 

I would have thought a new hub here would be a mixture of Westmorland (Evolt) and Tesla? With the former being the majority and latter minority (as per Tebay and Gloucester-Cairn Lodge doesn’t have any Tesla at all).

At Rheged today and construction has definitely begun. Bases being placed, and connection service vans in evidence. I specifically asked sbout Westmorland chargers but staff say they'll be Tesla.

I do wonder why Westmorland chose to install Tesla rather than their own brand chargers. It’s a real shame as I quite like the site, but personally I won’t be using them.

 

Maybe ABRP has jumped the gun? But can't be far away if they have?

30 stalls is a big deal. Although M6 J40 is diabolical as it is. Then add in traffic going to charge. Nightmare.

I only went through there a week ago but didn't go in to check.

 

It's not on the Tesla app yet so probably not open yet.

What is interesting is Tesla has changed their app recently to show live prices for each charger. Clearly trying to emphasise their lower pricing compared to the competition.

Great. Hopefully it will reduce the usage of the Supercharger at Caledonia Retail Park at Gretna which gets swamped with non-Teslas.

 

 

As of today (14th August 2025) 14 V4's fully installed and covered up ready for power from DNO. Contractor was installing the DNO supply cable route. Rheged reckon September / October opening but DNO dependant. Anyone's guess if Tesla only or Open to All. Tebay north is Tesla only as old V2's/V3's I understand but Tesla seem to review traffic to make the important decision.....

Yes they are open to all unless Tesla decide not in certain but a few particular sites unfortunately where the non-tesla traffic is too much so teslas cannot charge.. Hopefully that won't happen at Rheged. We'll find out soon enough eh.

An update on Rheged by YT Dave. Now awaiting DNO power. ( don't hold your breath )

 

His video titles are weird. "Searching for 500kW" when the video is actually previewing the Tesla install at Rheged.

 

I had a quick stop at the Rhegged Centre today (12th Sep), and some sort of work starting by the new Tesla chargers.

 

I looked at the Tesla website today (19th September 2025) and the Rheged site has DISAPPEARED from the map as it used to say coming soon.... Is anyone in the are to see actual status? I will be passing in early October

I'm heading to Cumbria on Monday 13th October and will pop into Rheged either on the 13th or the 15th to see if the Tesla chargers are grid connected yet. I suspect not as they are not showing on the Tesla website. Is anyone passing that way before then to update?
