Hi everyone

I was just wondering how reliable the smart #1 is. Does anyone have any experience of these cars to date?

I’ve done nearly 8,000 miles in mine in 6 months (that’s the annual PCP mileage already… I’ve set up a regular savings pot to pay it off…).

No problems whatsoever, no crashes, a couple of minor bugs which were fixed by OTA updates. Only real issues are that it refuses to charge at Tesla or Eyvye. I’d happily recommend it to anyone - it’s on the same platform as the Volvo EX-30, which gets lots of press, but the Smart is much nicer inside, with a larger screen and a drivers display, and a premium ambience.

I have driven one which I had as a loaner over about 500km (we had it on 2 occasions). Quite a nice car with the touches of Mercedes given they are a 50% partner with Geely.
Not a car fully to my taste I would prefer the EQA but nevertheless one I think is decent and I can fully understand why people would love it, certainly would prefer one to anything from the Stelliantos stable based on experience of ICE like peugeot, and opel.

I tested the EQA, and was very disappointed. It’s nice enough inside, if a little old fashioned, but it was awful to drive - at least on the slow city centre drive at Fully Charged London. I found it impossible to drive smoothly, the throttle was twitchy and the brakes were grabby, plus the auto hold needed the brake to be pressed quickly, instead of being held on for a second. And considering it’s 50% more expensive than the #1, I don’t think it’s worth it at all.

I was looking at Smart #3 recently....they are the same price (used with few miles) than Smart #1.
#3 looks really nice, the only small issue for now is that all available are white 😂 other than that....#3 is better choice, for me anyway.

2024 Smart #1 with 66 kWh Pro+ is £28K with a 1000 miles.
2024 Smart #3 with the same battery and spec is £29K with 1600 miles.

#3 is a clear winner for me (y)

The #3 is better looking, though the #1 is growing on me. They’re almost identical inside, the #3 has 3 round vents under the screen while the #1 has two lozenge vents. They can both choose either a fox or a leopard. The #1 has a shorter but higher boot than the #3, but the volume is the same.

Had my Brabus for over a year. I've so far done over 12k miles. Only problem I've had with it is droning/humming noise from rear from new. Diagnosed as problem with rear axle bearings and/or suspension mounting bushes. Dealer replaced bushes under warranty, no more noise and ride kinda improved and a lot quieter.

A known issue with a lot of early cars was the extending door handles would not fully recess, stay open, not open, etc, but most if not all would be fixed under warranty. My car didn't have this problem until a couple of months ago when both the front door handle started acting up. Waiting for parts to arrive to fix.

Initial problems with software but mostly ironed out along with a lot of improvements after ota updates. Ver 1.5 presently added V2L which has come in handy for me on a couple of occasions.

The Hello Smart app is pretty basic and can be a bit buggy but I only ever use it check if I've locked the car and if it is charging. It randomly logs you out which is annoying.

Proximity lock/unlock feature is a bit temperamental but it works 90% of the time. Of the 2 keys, one of them drains battery abnormally quickly so I use the other one with no problems.

I was fortunate that my car was well put together. Panel gaps tight and consistent, paintwork was nice with no noticeable orange peel effect. Interior was also solidly put together. No squeaks or rattles from new, but it has developed rattle sometimes now when the cover over the charging pad is open. Also occasional buzz coming from when the cover of the cup holders is open.

The car has never broken down, no electrical faults, drives as nicely as it has when new. On a couple of occasions I've left it parked unused for 3 weeks, came back, battery lost only 2-3% charge, car started and drove away no problems at all.

Overall I'm happy with the #1, would be even happier if it had longer range.
