Source London Tube Stations and legacy RFID

At the tube station car park this morning I was unable to start a charge on one of the big green Source London Type 2 chargers using my legacy RFID card. Tried two machines — no dice.

Called up customer service and was told I need to ‘rejoin’ to get a new card. Not sure what cost that will entail, but posting here now to warn others before you set off to Loughton, Blackhorse Road or any of the other sites with the free chargers in, you may not be able to start your charge.

So, my wallet is ten pounds lighter and I’m waiting for a new RFID. When it arrives i’ll find out if it actually starts a charge on the older style electric pumps , and , if it does, if the pumps are now networked up in such a way as to allow for billing. I suspect my days of free charging are over one way or another.

And the days of actually being able to leave your car on charge, and come back after a day in London to a charged car, at a reasonable cost, may be over, because Source London still don't understand that if you're paying for parking, you shouldn't really be paying per minute for parking on top of that, just for the cost of the electricity, hence the tariff should be considerably cheaper in paid car parks than on-street ones, and ideally, billed per kWh.

At my local tube station, they've got both the Siemens units (rated at 22kW), and the 3.6kW / 7kW IER units - that charge per minute. I have never seen any EV plugged into the new IER units there, not even the Bluecity rental fleet.

Got a response to my complaint to Source London. They have been unable to reach agreement with Waltham Forrest council to replace the existing electric pumps with their new 'smart meters'. Frankly, given their absurd per kWh rates, this sounds like a result -- provided some other operator could be persuaded to speak to the local authority and take over these sites. Do @CYC still monitor these forums? Anyone here know do we tip them (and others) off about a potential opportunity arising in some outskirts of London tube station car parks?

For me Source London posts may as well not exist these days, which is a shame as I go up to Brentford where there are quite a few. Realising that I would get 20 miles for the same price I would get 100 miles of out an Ecotricity charger sealed it. They are a waste of space to me and I don't think councils should be backing them.
