Vegan or penny pinching ?

How do you know it's cheaper?

 

Maybe in Tesla's case it is some fancy new material (I highly doubt it), but if we look at say Mercedes they offer MBTex (vinyl / faux leather) in base cars. If you want proper leather you have to pay more.

 

It's not the same as the multi-pattern seats. If you've touched the white ones it feels much like baby seal skin.

I don't see how what you sit on can affect your bad cholesterol levels.

 

Yeah. I'd like to see the choice between real and artifical leather generally available.

 

There are good synthetic leathers available. BMW sell one in the US that is hard to tell from their entry level Dakota leather.


Recently I've seen "vegan" shoes that are very hard to tell apart from real leahter.

 

If it is the same material used in the ultra white seats then it's a big upgrade on the leather they used to use.

 

I hope the vegan leather is better than the fancy BMW leather that isn't supposed to get as hot in the sun but just makes you feel you've been sat in a bath of your own sweat after anything other than a short journey.

 

I wonder how many people are driving round in cars with "Leather" seat that are actually made of dead dinosaurs. I have said it before the leather in a LEAF Tekna is not real, just turn the map pocket inside out and you can see what it is really made of.

 

Yeah the seat base and back you make contact with are engineered leather, the sides and actual back are synthetic. Brochures now say leather seats*

*seat facings are leather

 

Do you know if the new seats on the Model S are ultra premium (so like the X and have moveable head rests)? Last week I was pretty sure they were, not so sure after the upgrade on Friday night....

The MS seats are good - always been a little annoyed you can't adjust the height of the seat belt on the MS like you can in most sub £20k cars and the MX....
