Good morning,

Compliments of the season to everyone.

Please, I am considering upgrading the battery in my Nissan Leaf (30KWh) To a 62KWh Battery.

I have checked YouTube & ChatGPT for tips, etc.

Please, I wanted to confirm if anyone has successfully upgraded from a (Nissan Leaf) 30KWh battery to a 40KWh, or preferably a 62KWh Battery ?

If they have, can they please, confirm:

1). The vendor / Technician they used ?

2). How long it took ?

3). How much it cost ?

4). Performance of the car after the upgrade ? How satisfied are you about the upgrade, please ?

5). How long does it take to a full charge / how fast does it charge during road trips & at home ?

5). Any advise / suggestions for me - I drive a 30KWh Nissan Leaf. I estimated that the battery State Of Health (SOH) will be about 50%.

Thanks very much.

While it's still listed on their website I understand they have stopped doing Leaf battery upgrades, for now.

I believe the reason was difficulty sourcing battery packs that they could trust so they didn't run into the same kind of issues post-upgrade that Dala did with his in the videos I linked...

From their perspective sourcing a second hand battery pack (usually from an insurance write off) and trying to warranty it is a risky proposition. It wouldn't take too many bounce backs before all profit was lost and losses were incurred.

Hi
Don't forget that the battery is a lot heavier than 30kw.
So you should be upgrading the springs brakes and dampers as well.
I don't know if the ones from the 62kw doner car will fit .
A breaker just down the road from us has a 62kw on eBay for about ÂŁ4200 ( If memory serves )
Which is probably more than the leaf you have is worth.
Plus check with insurance company as well.
All the best for the new year .

You really only need to change the rear springs to the Mk2 62kWh springs, as it's a little heavier. Nothing else, the brakes are just the same on the 62kWh cars anyway.

I've done it. My story is here:

1, Did it myself
2, Actual job once I'd got the battery and tools needed to hand, a steady mornings working on my own.
3, As new 40kWh battery and can-bridge, around ÂŁ6400. I sold my 30kWh battery for ÂŁ2000, so net was about ÂŁ4400.
4, Performance is the same, but range is about 150 miles now.
5, 40kWh battery swap is extremely simple on post 2014 cars. You have to intercept the can hi and low lines with a can-bridge under the dash, and use Leafspy to set up the new battery, but it's straightforward. The 62kWh is less simple mechanically and requires some metal bracket work to make the battery fit. It also requires new rear springs fitting due to the higher weight and a set of Mk2 62Kwh car under shields as the originals won't fit, or leave them off.
