Visiting Lambeth - Charging/Parking Advice Please

Hi. County Durham northern boy here. On the Sunday of the forthcoming bank holiday weekend we are travelling to the big city and need to stop overnight in Kennington. We’ll then leave on the morning of the bank holiday itself. I’ve done some homework but a bit extra advice would be gratefully appreciated. I drive a Leaf+.

Congestion charge. Kennington is just inside the zone. Naively I had thought because it’s an EV I would be exempt from all charges but I now think I’m wrong. I think I’m exempt from a ULEZ fee but will have to pay a daily congestion fee of 2 x £15. Can someone please confirm? Apologies if this is such an obvious question.

On-street parking fees. Because we’re staying overnight Sunday to bank holiday Monday, there will be no cost to street park in Lambeth. Am I Correct?

Ubitricity posts. There are quite a few in the vicinity and seem fairly straightforward to charge overnight. Are they reserved for EVs or do they get ICEd frequently? Are we likely to get a post? If not are there any recommended alternatives in Kennington?

Many thanks.

You need to register for the CC discount - £10 for a year. Now worthwhile even for a single visit.
Boroughs vary as to whether bank holidays are treated the same as Sundays - check the local council website.
Unless the machine/signs explicitly mention bank hols, they are normal Mondays.

It varies council to council, but most councils still take the archaic view (at least in communications I've had with them) that there are more ubitricity charging points than EVs, and thus marking them as EV parking/charging only would cause a shortage of parking spaces. I actually have FOIs in with three to try and prove them wrong. As such, they are very often blocked by parked ICE cars if not technically 'ICED'.

That being said, some ones now have collars on them specifying they're for resident permit holder EVs only only, and I have now seen two EVs ticketed for charging in the 'wrong place' as they were not residents (one was an i3 from East Devon). I feel its slightly absurd they can be ICED totally fine, but a non resident charging on them risks a PCN.

One alternative might be Source London - they generally install 2 chargers, one 22kw and on 7kw and you can reserve the charger in advance with dedicated EV-only charging spaces. Of course there's also now a growing collection of rapids (including I think 6/7 MFG stations with at least 4 150kw rapids) popping up around London.

All in all, I think you should be fine.

I use google earth street view to try to read roadside parking signs.
Single yellow on a Sunday is normally fair game for all day freebie parking > BUT < check to be sure.
As per above it may not be the case on a Monday, and, some areas may be different.
Also a lot of 'permit X only' areas.

So I have a dekko on street view and develop plan A from that, then parkopedia type app for Plan B where I might have to drop off the passengers and then go find an NCP and a second mortgage.

Lambeth CPZ map linked here :

Looks like most of Lambeth's restrictions are OK to park on bank hols :

Just thought I'd add a word of thanks to those who gave good advice for my recent trip. I applied for the congestion charge discount and it was processed within about four days. I checked with Lambeth council and because we were parked up over a bank holiday Sunday and Monday there were no parking fees. Finally the Ubitricity post worked very well (no membership or app required, just a QR code and bank card details) and gave me a full overnight recharge for the return journey, and at a reasonable price.

We even got a free top up on the M1 going south due to a fading Ecotricity post at Leicester Forest East. Happy days.

So thank you people, a very straightforward, successful trip. 👍

Glad to hear you had a successful trip south, and that you found an available Ubitricity post! I think they've managed to create quite a neat product in terms of both hardware and software and I look forward to their wider rollout.
