Hello,

I am looking to view a Renault Zoe 52kwh GT Line soon, which I may purchase on a HP deal.

I am currently driving a Leaf and looking to move onto a Zoe.

What common problems/ faults should I look out for when viewing the Zoe?

I've seen loads of YouTube reviews, but they won't necessarily point out things that owners would know about.

Thanks everyone ☺

My wife's owned a R135 GT Line Zoe since new in March 2021. Zero problems in that time, not so much as an errant rattle. Very nice little car, and remarkably energy efficient. In summer she regularly gets around 5 miles/kWH, which is pretty good, given that my I-pace struggles to get better than about 3.5 miles/kWh. Build quality is very good, handling is great for a small car and performance is reasonable, if not blistering. Only real downside is the poor side impact score in crash testing, as for some very odd reason Renault have chosen to remove the side airbags. Doesn't particularly bother us, given that the risk of a side impact is rare given the way her car is used, but if we lived somewhere where side impact at high speed was a very real possibility I think I might be a bit more concerned.

I have had the predecessor of what you are eying for 8.5 years now. The few issues it has had (motor bearing in a batch of the Q type motors, weak hinge of the inner charge flap, a few dodgy firmware issues) have all been long corrected. It's been a fine little car and I intent to drive it to it's utter demise. Seeing how it has behaved, that could be a really long way off.

If I were hard pressed to complain, the mounts of the anti-roll bar is a bit of a PIA. It is clamped in hard plastic mounts that after about 3 years start creaking in winter like you're hitting the pavement. Unfortunately to replace it the dealer has to lower the sub-frame. Probably nothing some penetrating lubricant once a year can't fix, but I never tried. Drive her over a speedbump on a cold morning to check this.

Had ours since new,Nov 21
GT line R135 with Winter Pack

App…worse than useless
Creaking tailgate issue…still there …since new…Renault still building cars with this fault

Neither issue bothers us

22kwAC charging is great, especially on the free Aldi chargers near us👍👍

Range has been a constant real-world 190 through winter , 3.9-4.0 m/kwh mainly local

Hi!

I've had my Intens R135 since mid 2020 (over 30000km now).
The major issues I've had were:
  • an improperly seated connector near the charge port. The car refused to charge, took it to a dealer, and was fixed in 20min
  • failed wireless phone charger. Was fixed under warranty, but it took a couple of months to get the replacement parts - with the chip shortage and all else

Overall I am very happy with the car. Very economical and pleasant to drive. It scores high in most categories for me, even if it isn't exceptional.

ZE50 GT Line, March 20
  • Creaky boot - fixed by dealer
  • Water drips when you open the door - mainly a design fault
  • Wireless charger stopped working - fixed by dealer
  • OTA maps update still aren't working (2 years later!)
  • Doesn't have AEBS (was in the spec when ordered, but early cars didn't get it due to shortages and it can't be retrofitted)
In fairness, these are all niggles rather than problems.

R110 ZE40 2018 bought new in February 2019, had ARB mounts replaced this year, MOT failure, replaced under extended warranty. Battery degradation about 90% SOH after 3 years and 46K miles. Replaced crappy original EV tyres after 25K miles front and 35K miles rear. Can be fussy with public chargers with poor earths. Best car I've ever owned.

Had a ZE50 GT135 courtesy car for a month while waiting for ARB bushes and its a better Motorway car and CCS charging is a God send compared to AC Type 2 for longer journeys. Satnav much better. Didn't handle as well though with slower steering rack and the extra weight making it lazy in the corners plus the steering was too light compared to the R110. Throttle mapping made it feel sluggish as well although 0 - 60 time slightly faster and extra 25 BHP noticeable up hills.

So if I could upgrade my R110 ZE40 to CCS I would keep it, but after trying the ZE50 I made my mind up to wait for the new Megane next year, unless Muxan starts providing CCS upgrades any time soon :devilish:
