Zappi owners - be warned

It might just be me, but after I was requested by Myenergi to install the latest firmware on my V2 Zappi and my hub, the whole thing is now bricked.
They are saying there is a problem with the the “lock pin”. The error message is “lock failure”.
Just how a mechanical item, that was working perfectly fine up until now, can be rendered broken by a firmware update, defeats my logic.

Octopus IO currently doesn't need the hub as the Zappi is not supported. 3 years ago a "smart" -goverment controlled- Chargepoint was not required so the hub was optional and I decided it would probably last longer if not updated. I in theory have a smart dishwasher but it will never be connected to the internet.

really?, I understood it was still being worked on from other posts on the forum and you could only use OHM or have a car which worked with IO where Octopus controlled the car.

I'd quite like to use IO but the prospect of Octopus waking up the neighbours by turning on the Zappi (Ampera's sound their horn when plugged in) puts me off. I'd need to buy a hub as well - here lie dragons....

For me it is the complete lack of innovation for such a long time from what was once the most innovative company in the market that’ll kill them.

How difficult would it have been to redesign the Zappi casing? The Libbi took literally years to develop and in the end they stuck their badge on a KSTAR and ramped up the price. Why have they been so slow to integrate with Octopus?

A competitive advantage is short-lived you have to keep innovating if you want to continue operating!

I have a Zappi and Eddi and both have work fine on previous and latest software.

New regulation requirements applied to the new software meant it highlighted previous installation and configuration errors that caused problems. I think it also highlighted some hardware issues with their hubs and the rollout was rushed to enable them to start installing Libbi batteries.

I have not had any overheating problems, but Zappi is mounted on a North facing wall, so not exposed to the sun.

From what I have seen IO integration has been waiting on Octopus, as they decided to concentrate on integrating cars ahead of chargers. That did not go smoothly and Kias were added and withdrawn on a couple of occasions. Zappi beta testing is rumoured to have started for release in the autumn.

It appears that recently myenergi have been dedicating a lot of resources to their Libbi battery project and improving 3 phase operation of the Zappi. Whether this proves a commercial success is yet to be seen.

I hope you are wrong. I've got one and it has worked perfectly well for two and a half years.

I've also just had our new second solar panel and battery system added to the app. It gives a great overview of what everything is doing.
It is a great product. It seems to have the best solar integration of all current EVSEs. But the design is dated. They haven't kept up.

I wonder whether big electronics firms like Panasonic, Sony etc will ever come into this market. You’d think if most homes need a charger eventually it would be worth them getting involved.

ME thought they were done with their side, then OE made them extend the API so I think that knocked it back a bit. Beta hasn't started yet, they keep saying a couple of weeks. I'm on the list so will see if I'm able to post anything about it, some of these things are commercially sensitive and you're not allowed to post outside of the beta group
