Zoe ZE50 safety equipment - trying to summarise

I'm considering swapping our Zoe 22 for a nearly new ZE50 as prices are falling pretty quickly now. I know all about the Euro NCAP debacle. I've been trawling through old threads on here trying to work out exactly what equipment was fitted to what models, as the Renault dealers' listings are quite variable in what they include. Does anyone know if my assumptions are correct:
  • All cars made after January 2022 had AEB and multiple airbags
  • Some GT Line+ cars made before January 2022 had AEB (can check by looking at the Driver Aids screen in the settings) and may also have had multiple airbags
  • A lot of earlier cars (of all trim levels) didn't have AEB, even if they had the blank panel on the front bumper
For example, this 2020 GT Line+ at my local dealer seems to have AEB and blind spot warning if the photo of the settings screen can be trusted:

However, the writeup for that car just states 'Driver/Front Passenger airbags' whereas a 2022 model listed with the same dealer uses the wording '2 Driver airbags/2 Passenger airbags (disconnectable)', which suggests the 2020 car is missing some airbags.

Are my assumptions correct?!

My son has a 2021 ZE50 I have the latest 2022 model.
The most obvious differences are auto parking , (I wasn’t bothered but now love it ) and blind spot warning.
The difference from a 22 to latest ZE50 is enormous, the headlights are so much better which is certainly a safety aspect. Auto dip works great as well. Suspension and ride is a big improvement.
I’d recommend a 2022.2 model with CCS (boost) registered before 2023 so it has a 5 year warranty. Yes I’ve got one, but they are good.

WOW it is very confusing, but thanks for the info, particularly the 5 Year warranty.

I assume that the models you are referring to are the Iconic and Techno?
When you say that ride is an improvement, is this over other ZE50s?

I've ended up buying the one linked above. Happy a) that it has AEB and blind spot warning, however many airbags it may or may not have b) it has the 5 year warranty and c) that Smiths will take a battery lease Zoe with the airbag warning light on as part exchange!

I heard the salesman say in an aside to one of his colleagues that most of their current stock came from ONTO.

In my opinion it’s still too early to switch if you want the cheapest possible ‘new’ Zoe. Renault will instruct the dealers to pre-register any unsold stock they have, just like last year and at that point they’ll be dumping them in January, just like last year. And that will drop the price on everything else.

The airbags missing are the ones that protect your head from smacking into the side window glass I thought. That's across all of ZE50s.

The real issue with the Zoe Euro NCAP score was that Renault, in their wisdom, launched a version of the Zoe without all the newer safety features (lane keep assist, overtaking warnings, automatic emergency braking and those head airbags) and that resulted in a zero score. If you honestly believe the Zoe turned into a death trap as a result, buy something else. Common sense tells you that it’s the same car. Personally, I wouldn’t buy the S model because that’s the really basic one but that’s because I actually like LKA.

My mum (79) paid a little over £20K for a MY2022.5 with 26 miles on the clock and on top of that they gave her what was effectively another £2000 off in what they gave her for her 9 year old diesel Peugeot with 140K miles on the clock. My mum will keep the Zoe until it’s not economical to repair so let’s say 10 years and by then a lot of the BS around electric cars will be normalized. I have to say, if you can get a PCP deal or a lease I would have an electric car on that basis because they’re still pretty volatile as consumer durables. I’m doing a conversion on my SAAB 96V4 and I bought a ZE40 Zoe as the donor car. 2020 model with 9000 miles and I only gave £8000 for it. And I’ll get a chunk of that back in parts most likely. Certainly the dealer doing the conversion thinks so.

Zoe’s are a complete bargain at the moment, and they’ll probably get better again for the first 3-6 months of 2024 as Renault clear out all the final cars they pre-registered this December to bring down their tax liability and when the new 5 launches they’ll likely drop again. My mum isn’t one to change her car much and if that’s you, you won’t be unhappy in a Zoe.

It is a 72 plate MY2022.5 according to the app and yes, I can certainly ask my mum for a photo. There are SRS tags in the seats but that’s not for the curtain airbags. This is the letters SRS moulded into the headlining and you can just see the edge of the weakness in the headlining where the bag would deploy out of.

Thanks for this and all of the posts here. There are some bargains to be found, particularly if you can match up the latest specs to improve safety. Also, at the current prices, if the Zoe is worth £0 after 4 to 5 years, it is still a bargain!

The improved suspension is on all ZE50, easily spotted as 5 wheel nuts per wheel
I wondered why my mum’s car had 5-stud wheels when the majority seem to be 4-stud.

Picked up this GT Line+ 72-plate with a smidge over 8100 miles for my daughter today from Bristol Street (Nissan Darlington) for £13,900. Its an ex-ONTO car and I pounced on when it came into stock.

As far as I can tell it's got all the gubbins discussed above and is a sweet little thing to drive, having just driven it 260 odd miles home.

Next challenge is to get past this stage with the app registration. Anyone know if you still have to wait 72 hours for it to activate?

My mum had to contact Renault support to get hers activated (well, I did it because my mum wasn’t actually that bothered but they sent us instructions to get the status of the car, had us reset the infotainment back to factory and when that didn’t work, they contacted France and they reset something and it came alive. Took about a week from first contact to activation.

It does look lovely when clean and in the sun, almost becomes liquid so very pleased with it...

Bet its hard to touch up / match though....

White is always a safe bet though, you can't go far wrong...(y)

Keep trying with the app, even try uninstalling it and put on again if you haven't already...

Mine didn't work for a day or 2 then after trying again it came on....:)

Yes my 72 is as Simcity's all still active...

You would think they could do it even if they charged a fair fee, money for nothing for them really...??

And if the rosbeefs have to pay for what the french get free even better in their eyes...:LOL:

Hopefully someone clever will work out a work around for it somehow..??

I know this thread is old, but can anyone make it as simple as possible to find out which Zoe has the max safety equipment? I am looking to buy a 22 plate for my daughter, probably a GT Line (not GT+). Thanks in advance.
