Hi guys

I noticed this yesterday and I'm not sure if it's new or if it's normal and I've only just noticed it, but whenever I brake our the regen kicks in the is a clicking noise. Which gets louder/faster as the car gets closer to stopping.

Is this something I should be worried about our is this normal?

Thanks
Grant

it's possible but rare to get small stones stuck between the pads/disks which can cause problems, so I would try a visual inspection to see if that might possibly be the problem. otherwise I'm with @Allandrick and would take it in to be safe.
however, someone reported an odd noise with their Kona drivetrain, I am wondering if the two might have a related fault.

Thanks guys

I got a call from the dealer yesterday who asked how I was getting on with the car and said he waould speak to service today to see if they could suggest anything, although looking at the other thread @Paul M mentioned i guess ill probably get the brush off.

I had noticed it is intermittent and is unlikely to be a stone stuck n the brake pads as it gets faster under heavier braking/regen, it could be the battery temp thing?

I've noticed a very slight noise, a little like an artificial ice engine sound, a bit like a fast clock. I didn't notice it when I first had the car and it changes with the accelerator or brake pedal position. I can't always hear it, and can only hear it when it's quiet in the car.
Is your clicking anything like that?

Took it in to the dealership to get their master tech to look at it today. Brakes all fine, pads fine, liners, wheels, etc all checked.

Tech came out saying he thought he’d fixed it and as he drove past to test I could hear it clearly as he drove off :-(

Back in the workshop again now. /yawn

I'm getting a fast click some times when accelerating, nothing when braking.
As kids we used to jam a piece of folded newspaper/card somewhere so it used to just touch the spokes and make an engine sound, or so it sounded to us. That's what the noise reminds me of, and it seems to be a little louder now and a little more often. I'm going to be taking it in to ask about it as it sounds to me like something is catching somewhere.

Hi, I am new to the forum, took delivery of my E- Niro 4 weeks ago, done 1000 miles, noticed similar clicking sound when accelerating right form delivery. This has got progressively worse so took it back to the garage today I was told that there is a problem with the 'Reduction Gear', the garage has sent the recording to 'Kia technical', I can not say whether it is the same problem as yours but my garage has advised not to drive the car until they hear back from Kia.

No they have only gone as far as isolating where the noise is coming from, and then contacted Kia technical, as for the advise not to drive it makes sense as the noise has got progressively worse, but I suspect they are also covering their backs, I have been given a courtesy car, I have not enquired about the fuel costs, but I will when I next go into the garage.

Are there any updates regarding your car? If you don't mind, could you share the name of your dealership?

Update on my car, my local garage opened up the reduction gear as advised by Kia technical, and found that it was fully greased so lack of grease was not the cause of the noise, they inspected the gears (and the rest of the car) and could not see anything wrong with them either. So having taken the car apart the cause of the noise is still unknown and discussions are continuing between my local garage and Kia tech. I have been in touch with customer services who confirmed on their system that Kia Tech and my local garage where in discussion and advised I call back in a few days if there is no progress. So unfortunately I have to put a few more days worth of diesel in the courtesy car.

Update on my car, the problem is related to the grease on the shaft connecting the engine and the reduction gear after all, it is just the wrong type of grease! Following discussions between Kia tech UK and Korea the outcome is that they need to re-grease the shaft with a special type of grease which is being sent over from Korea, apparently there has been one other E-niro with the same problem in Germany.

Thanks for the update, but how would the wrong grease make a clicking noise? I'm not expecting you to be able to answer that one but it sounds very strange. Mine doesn't do it all the time but it is most of the time now and it's worse after a longer drive.

Do you know when your Niro was brought into the country? Mine was in the UK in January according to a screen shot I was sent.
