Dear speakEV readers and contributors,

I am looking to take my BMW i3 to France and possibly to Italy. What public charging cable do I need? I assume my existing AC Type 2 cable will not work in France?

Does anyone know where I can order one from? Any help would be appreciated.

Kindest Regards

Hi, I bought a domestic euro plug & lead from here to go to France and charge overnight at my destination:
Portable Mode 2 16a J1772 EVSE with Schuko Domestic Plug
good service but equipment not at all cheap! However I felt nice and secure when having to use it in the rain. They supply just about everything and have a very clear informative site.
On the journey chargemap.com is useful but Type 3 chargers are to be avoided. However there's a lot of provision of Type 2 around and about, although homework needed to ensure you don't get stuck in a gap, Normandy is just awful and in the way of the Channel ports!
Oh and you'll also need a KiWhi card at least, maybe others, depends on where you're going.
All the Best
