Great news! I've been trying to persuade my family to get an EV. My brother traded in a BMW i8 (which he refers to as a midlife crisis car!) for a BMW 300e, without considering the i4. I took him for a ride in my Corsa, and he was impressed how quiet and fast it was, and the fact I'd driven half way across the country with no problems. I think his next will be a full EV; he already has a home chargepoint.
My older sister is only 4 years older than me, but she's a different generation - X, while I'm an X-ennial, and my younger sister is a millennial. It's surprising how different our worldviews are, despite growing up in the same house. My younger sister would love an EV, but couldn't justify the expense. She and her husband bought a petrol MG ZS - they preferred the EV, but for the same price they could get the petrol one, and a Kia Picanto too. Next time I think they'll go electric. It won't be easy to fit a home chargepoint, but my pillar proves it's possible, and in their case they won't need to ask the neighbours as it'll all be on their own land. Lots of new public chargers in Sheffield will surely help, if for no other reason than that they'll see lots more EVs, and their friends might get them too. Peer pressure is powerful.
My older sister doesn't want an EV, doesn't want to understand why it's better, doesn't want to learn a new interface, doesn't want change. They keep cars for a long time; they were running an 03 Passat until 2017. I imagine they'll still be using petrol until its difficult to buy, and probably complain about all these EV spaces she can't park in.
