Heading off for a few days - anyone know if any of the parking services offer charging? Even a 3 pin would be good - seems to be a lack of CCS rapids in the area.

If you don't have a Source East RFID, can you use any others? I am really interested to know about the Luton Parkway station charger in particular, as I will be staying at the Hampton by Hilton hotel nearby.

I applied for a card 3/3/16 and it still has not been delivered. Source East tell me that I will not get it before Easter as there is a problem getting the RFID cards manufactured for them.

So apart from the Chargemaster HQ in Luton I don't have much choice for a 3 hour charge. The only other option would be the Toddington Ecotricity chargers on the M1 about 10 miles away. Its a good job I have the Rex or the trip would be off completely.

At Leeds Bradford Airport the neighbouring car park will charge your car up for you whilst you are away from a 3-pin for couple of pounds. Its a pity the Luton Airport car parks don't offer a similar service, they charge enough!

You could try asking Central Car Storage - I airways use them for parking at Luton; it's a relatively small business, they might be happy to plug your car in for you.

I live about 11 miles from the airport and more than happy to park/charge the so that's 1 option (not at stupid o'clock)
Luton central train station has a charger that sometimes works (has been this week) my wife has been told that she is the only one to use it.

I was hoping to find a pre-flight hotel stay where a charger was available due to having to be at the airport at 5am.

Ibis Luton Airport Hotel ARE planning to install EV charging facilities but I don't have a date as to when this will happen. I have emailed them and hope that they have an installation date confirmed. It could be as little as two weeks from now.

Bonkers. Why would anyone pay those parking prices to get a charge? ÂŁ13 for 1 hour! I guess some people park for a hour when collecting family?

If you are going away, then airparks are a good bet. They have an off site parking which for the addition of ÂŁ1 they will give you a full charge. They have 4 chargers on site and just ask that you leave your charge cable. I got a full charge on my PHEV during a 24hour stay for ÂŁ13 , normally ÂŁ12 with bus transfers.

I have used airparks too, good setup, and charged the car the day before I picked it up.

Sure, but the thread was really about people flying off holiday. Parking for a week or two in the short term car park is only affordable by premier league football players :D

I called up APCOA, the car park operator, and they said there were 6 Tesla chargers and 4 "general purpose" ones. The "general purpose" chargers are "rapid", but this is all I could get out from them. I'll check them myself next week.
Commonly, that language means 10 Tesla wall connectors (with type-2 tethered cables), of which 6 would be configured Tesla-only and 4 configured to work with any car with type-2. Of course that leaves current-generation Leaf out in the cold.

The Tesla website claims 6 connectors and max 13kW (which is a curious number, implies 18A three-phase).

It's possible the other 4 are some other type of hardware, but relatively likely they are all Tesla and possibly limited to 16A - so only 3.6kW on single-phase vehicles.

I hope so or Type 1 cars are out of luck which would be bonkers!

I was about to post this as noticed the advert on their parking website whilst booking for a trip in a few weeks time. They look to be time limited to 3hrs so very much for those dropping off or picking up and are free to use once you have paid for the (admittedly expensive) short term parking.

If I have time I'll grab some photos when I travel up.
